Fight Cheoreography; Something I Always Wondered?

I would definitely like to ask Chuck this question, but why did he use a stunt man in every fight scene. Whenever the camera is facing Walker, you can plainly see that it's Chuck doing the moves. Yet when they are filming from Walker's back, it is quite obviously a double. I've never understood this since Chuck was quite capable of performing the moves. It's the same thing with Trivette. Stunt double from behind, yet Clarence Gilyard from the front. Maybe the actors filmed the whole fight with the cameras on their face/front, and then a second unit filmed their doubles from behind to pick up any coverage?? Not sure, but something thats always bugged me.

Damn is it really such a big deal? Maybe the moves/combos were too extreme for Chuck and Clarence. I saw this Actionfest interview with Chuck and Aaron Norris. Chuck said how Judson Mills wanted to perform his own stunts (even though he has black belt in taekwondo) but producers were like no, at least during the first few episodes of season 7.

In the end, what matters is that all this looked good and fun, even if actors were more than capable of making their own moves. This series featured some of the best martial artists, unbeaten in tournaments, but even they had stunt doubles.

Got back into rewatching this show recently and man, Chuck's stunt double really stands out. Even when they show Chuck doing some moves, the camera goes all shakey with jumbled slow motion. It's a real mess. I never noticed this when it aired back in the day. I'm guessing even if Norris was still agile enough for the moves, it still takes a toll performing take after take after take every week. It's probably like you said. They just shot enough coverage of the fight for the face shots, then sent the stars to the trailers while they shot all the pickups. I mean I can throw my back out just dancing in the kitchen while i'm baking a pizza. You don't mess with the money.
