Does anyone know the name of this TV movie?

It was an ABC station TV movie I think that aired sometime in the late 80s or early 90s. Takes place around some sort of construction site. I remember certain scenes like this guy had X-ray glasses or something and he made a deal with a cashier that he'd go half if the ticket he scratches wins. Anyhow, I recall him scanning through the rolls of lottery scratch off tickets and he finds one that has a huge cash prize. Another scene was his gun didn't require a lot of power but uses a regular copper top battery to power this explosive charge. I can't remember the name of this TV movie but I believe it was on ABC at the time. I hope someone can recall the name of this TV movie. I thought it was a cool concept but I think it never made an impact to become a series.

It was called Out of Time. I only know because I remember [for some reason] that Bill Maher was in it playing this dude's grandfather. It is from way back in 1988. I hope I have helped.

Ahh, just wanted to confirm if you recalled the "battery operated" gun and the x-ray glasses that allowed him to scan the lottery tickets and pick out the winner? Do you remember this coming exactly from this movie? Are there any links with TV snapshots from this movie cause I can't find anything. Hope someone can help.

yes, I remember. I recently saw it again on Encore WHAM! But I was always sure that this was, in fact, the movie you were referring to. I also think this movie is listed under Bill Mahr's credits.

I remember vividly since I had to attend Boy Scout camp when this was going to be on (they had been advertising it huge for a good month before it aired), so I had my parents record it for me.

I watched it a lot of times, and possibly still have a really grainy VHS copy. I loved those X-ray glasses - he noticed that attractive female (police officer?) had broken a bone with them, and also used them to find the 'big winner' scratch off lottery ticket.

That was a cool flick for sure...
