Missing the Blackwoods

I'm currently watching the UK TV Drama airings of this excellent show. It is currently at the start of season 3. My one great sadness is that as the show seems to have progressed, the Blackwood family seem to have an increasingly less important role in the storylines.

For example, take the character of Victoria Blackwood (played brilliantly by the lovely Amanda Douge). At the start of season one, she plays a pivotal role and the conflict between Rob and Luke over her makes an excellent storyline. After she returns mid-way through season two, she is treated to a couple of interesting storylines until eventually she is reduced to simply a background character (she doesn't utter a word in the finale episode of season two).

From what I understand, the character of Frank is gone for good by Season three (I thought that Rodney Bell made a great villian, may he rest in peace). I seem to remember reading that Victoria does return at the very end although as to how significant a return it is, I've yet to find out.

Amanda Douge seems to have done a lot of recent work over here in the UK. I do hope that she becomes a much more recognised actress, because she is both stunning and a good actress at the same time (a rare combination in the industry today!).

Other than that, I think that the Australian network which produced this gem should be proud of an exciting and brilliantly acted drama!

I completely agree. It is such a shame that John Stanton, Amanda Dogue and Rodney Bell are no longer part of the show. I always enjoyed the rivalry between the Blackwoods and McGregors. Mind you, continuity was never Snowy River's strong point. The palomino Moonbeam that Matt gave Kathleen only featured in a couple of episodes and wasn't seen or mentioned again. Then there was Prince the black horse Luke and Rob fought over. He too vanished into thin air. And whatever happened to Michael's big grey Regret? Did they think we would forget about them and did it slip their minds that Oliver was MISSING in the Outback? How could they keep their viewers on the edge of their seats like that and not bother to conclude the story?

I will be most disappointed if they do not tie up some of the many loose ends.

Another element of poor continuity - when Amanda Douge reprised her role in the final season and Matt talks her out of marrying Herbert, Matt says something along the lines that "he owes it to her father who was a good friend".

Is this the same Oliver Blackwood that tried to drive Kathleen off her land and pulled a gun to Matt's head in the desert?

SOME FRIEND!
