Wacky Delly

What were people saying about this one after it originally aired 20 years ago? I don't recall watching it but I was in 1st grade. I remember the promos for season 4 in the summer of 96, which was Heffer training Rocko in Wimp on the Barby. It's up on Youtube.

But I wish I could see an original review somewhere. The Internet DID exist but not many people had it. I've even seen original Simpsons reviews from like, 1993! People even thought it was "bad" back in season 5. I can't believe some of those reviews. They should see it NOW.

Wacky Delly . . . I don't think it's overrated. It's hysterical! The storyboard scene, the Pilot with the random explosions, cat meows, the yodeling, Ralph's failed attempts to sabotage the show like 10 Minutes of Mayo . . . and of course, "I am the Cheese! I am the best character on the show, I am better than both the Salami and the Bologna combined!"

I'm guessing there are some old "discussion groups" from back then where it was discussed. It's an eerie feeling for me reading comments from people from the internet from before I had it...and during years I don't really associate as being internet years (before the late 90s). Like, "these people don't sound that much different to people on the internet today," and I think about how it was around 20 years ago and some of these people might even be dead, and if they're alive, if they were middle aged then, they're old age/approaching old age today.

Anyway, this episode had some great satire...such as the fan reactions to different things...like the guy at the end talking about how it was brilliant before the "new guy" came in and ruined everything (which was really just Ralph actually trying rather than trying to sabotage the show).

It's that cartoon "in joke" type thing. I know Ren & Stimpy did their own "making of the cartoon" satire episode.

People liked it. It was the first one I showed my parents and after that they didn't mind seeing more (I taped them all on VHS as a kid).

There is somebody's film school thesis floating around the internets trying to compare the "Wacky Delly" episode of RML to Federico Fellini's 8 1/2, so I guess it made an impression.

I have the complete series on DVD and that's an episode I should probably watch.
