NOT UP TO THE ORIGINAL, BUT WORTH WATCHING ANYWAY.

Yes, I agree with most people that RTLD was a lesser effort, and was probably viewed by the producers as basically a "cash cow". Nonetheless, I still enjoyed this offering, had a good time watching it, and thought William Peterson was terrific as Gideon Walker, Louis Gossett great as Isom Pickett, and I also felt the replacement Call and Clara did pretty good at filling out-sized shoes. Worth watching for it's own merits, IMHO. Your mileage may vary.

This was a good movie in a bad situation. It was the sequel to a huge mini series considered by many to be the greatest Western of all time, based on a pulitzer prize winning novel, and it was a sequel not done by the original author.

Its a tall order to be popular in that situation, but if you look past all that you see a good and enjoyable movie.

So what if McMurtry didn't write it? Entertaining is entertaining write? Sure it wasn't as good as Lonesome Dove, but none of McMurty's sequels were either.

You know its a great story when even its own author can't match it.
