Well, I really liked this.

My mum lent it to me- it is definitely not my sort of thing (I like explodey films normally).

I thought that the story was good. It is about a complicated man and the difficulties that he (mostly) brings upon himself. I started off liking him a lot, due to his home circumstances, but as it wore on I found that he was less and less likeable. The fact that I did not out and out despise him by the end surprised me. He is not a nice man. He treats his women as stepping stones and makes his son live a lie. By the end of it I almost had sympathy for his nagging, evil (sort of ex)wife. He'd lied to her as he had lied to (almost) everyone else he met throughout the course of the story. The characters (some of them anyway) seemed to be real people with real problems with love and commitment. Life's not perfect, but we have to get along somehow...

I have seen a few catherine cookson adaptations now. This one was one that i was unsure about at first. But i quite liked after i had seen it. Its not my favourite cookson story but it still was pretty interesting to watch.
