Modern Magic: A Return to Classic TV!

This surprisingly somewhat under-appreciated landmark comics-adapted series offered a great cast (Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher) and wonderful storylines for a modernized revamping of the beloved Superman (DC Comics) storylines which were so cherished in the days of yesteryear.

While the new Superman-related media --- "Supergirl" (CBS), "Smallville" (WB/CW), "Superman Returns" (Brandon Routh), "Man of Steel" (Henry Cavill) and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (Ben Affleck/Henry Cavill) --- are certainly engaging, the only significant modern Superman media of note that beckoned America's appreciation of Superman comics from yesteryear were arguably the Christopher Reeve Superman films co-starring Margot Kidder as Lois Lane.

Superman is an optimistic hero, even when he tackles creepy villains such as Lex Luthor, General Zod, and Nuclear Man.

"Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" (1993) had a similar 'yesteryear tone' also seen in praised modern TV programs such as Newhart, Northern Exposure, Picket Fences, and Early Edition.

I became a big fan of Dean Cain because of this show, and while Batman (DC Comics) is my favorite superhero, I'll always like how Superman makes America feel...clean.

IMO, there seems to be two 'tones' in modern TV --- family-oriented optimistic shows such as Lois and Clark, and noir-unusual (or even gothic) shows such as Desperate Housewives and Gotham.

I think Lois and Clark is a great achievement in thematics-drawing.

LOIS: I think LexCorp is devising some 'nuclear man.'
CLARK: Americans will panic!
LOIS: You need to meet with Luthor about Superman.
CLARK: I wonder if he'd use such a meeting for the media.
LOIS: At least people will think Superman's interested...
CLARK: Superman will always be interested in questionable nuclear research.
LOIS: I wish I was in Smallville.
CLARK: So do I!
