Is this the cop series where...?

I'll just start by saying I loved this show...even if it's not the one I'm wondering about here.
Just so 90's grit yknow?
I was 12 when it came out, never really got to watch all that much.
Re-runs have aired on various channels but, I'm more of a "watch in order" type guy, and I'd very much like to see the whole series of which I've maybe seen a total of 12 episodes.

So my actual question was:

Was this the cop show in which one of the cops or detectives gets abducted or captured, kept tied to a chair and injected with heroin (or something of the like) eventually to a point they make him beg for more saying "I need it".

If it's not homicide, does this ring a bell with anyone?
I remember it being somewhat chilling to me at the time.

Well, sort of. Season 3, Episode 20, "Gas Man". Bruno Kirby plays a released convict trying to get his revenge on Pembleton, the cop that put him in jail. Pembletons family is terrorized, and Pembleton gets captured and tied to a chair and has to beg for mercy. I don't remember about the heroin, though. It all ends with Bruno Kirby getting a massive breakdown (or, they both did, in that situation) and he can't finish off killing Pembleton.

A really intense episode, though not one of my favourites. But Kirby makes an impressionable cameo, the series was famous for using well known actors in one-part roles. Like Vincent D'onofrio in Season 6, Episode 7, "Subway". Or a countless others throughout the years. One of the first series that really made it credible for film actors doing small time tv-jobs. Just because their parts were so well written, it really is a separate one hour drama inside the show.

I muse be thinking of something else then, because I recall it being a white guy that it happened to, and it was within an alley and/or abandoned building and there was certainly intravenous drugs involved.

The only cop show that I can recall with a similar storyline was Miami Vice. One of the vice cops, not the two leads, was working undercover, his cover was blown, and he was given an overdose of heroin. Maybe that's the show you're thinking about?

reply

Nah, I'm pretty sure it was more recent than Miami Vice (another show I'd like to see more of, those cool musical montages and HUGE amount of quality guest stars...seen a total of maybe 3 complete episodes)and that it was one of the main cops, or it seemed to be, that got captured.

It seemed like the objective was to simply get him hooked on the stuff.
He didn't have an overdose, and while I'm not sure how, he did get away.

reply

Occurred on Starsky & Hutch. Hutch was the drugged officer.

reply

I'm pretty sure there was an ep of New York Undercover where the Eddie character went thru that. It was the same time period as Homicide and a Dick Wolf production

Pembelton wasn't tied to a chair; he had a knife to his throat though.

Could you be thinking of Criminal Minds?

reply

Could you be thinking of that season of 24 where Jack comes back from being undercover in South America and as part of his cover became a heroin addict (magically fixed by episode 10 I believe).

Other than that I think you might be thinking about French Connection 2 where they get Popeye Doyle strung out on heroin.

reply

To me this sounds like a part of the French Connection II, where Popeye (Gene Hackman) is abducted by drug dealers and they force heroin into him. I know this is a very late reply but it may help if you're still searching.

There is also an episode of Starsky and Hutch where Hutch has that exact thing happen to him. I know that show was generally more lighthearted but that scene was pretty intense and the episode very serious because of it. In the '70s it was pretty shocking for a mainstream drama series.

I know it's been a long time, but it's Criminal Minds you are thinking about. Season 2, two part episodes 14 (The Big Game) and 15 (Revelations). James Van Der Beek was the unsub, and he captured, held hostage and drugged Dr Spencer Reid, with Dilaudid, who would later be hooked on the stuff for a while.

If you really want to watch this site is not free but it does all 7 seasons.

You're thinking of Criminal Minds, where Dr. Spencer Reid is kidnapped by a deranged unsub, who keeps giving him heroin. The episode is called Revelations, with guest star James Van Der Beek (season 2, ep. 15). Hope that helps.

I own the Homicide boxed set, which never fails to move me all over again. I also love Criminal Minds. Enjoy.
