Gary's child (minor SPOILER)

Was it just me or did Gary's daughter Ellie have a resemblance to her mother. I wondered if she might be really related to Emma Amos. Good casting I guess!

I'm a bit ambivalent about the revival though if I'm honest. It wasnt a bad episode and Being my fave childhood sitcom, I wouldn't mind having an old friend return. But on the other hand just like if you'd lost touch with an old friend it could be a little awkward if you see them again as so much time has passed you don't really know the current version of each other.

I mean I enjoyed being a child, teenager but there's no way I'd want to go back to being one (well maybe a 5 year old if I could stay there forever and play with my imaginary friends lol). But you get the point, nostalgia shouldn't time travel (I made that one myself!). I think it better to have the audience play out Gary's scenarios post 1945 in the arena of their imagination rather than wrap it up in a nicely resolved bow, less powerful IMO.

A nicely resolved bow? I think your metaphor is off by 180 degrees - they've just untied the bow on a new parcel and we have only just begun to explore the contents.

So this is permanence, love's shattered pride.
What once was innocence, turned on its side.

That is also true but by definition resolve means: "to settle, solve, find an answer to"

Simply by creating this new episode they have provided a resolution to what happened after the credits rolled on the final episode.

Prior to providing this resolution the time portal could've re-opened 3 months later or Gary could've found another one somewhere else like ep5 s6 (though technically we don't know for certain that never happened) or a plethora of other scenarios.

It was an open ending to some extent, now one end has been tied up but point taken, the bow at the other end has been untied which is credit to the writers who we know are masters of their craft and had one eye on acquiring further episodes.

It feels like closure has been gained and if the Beeb decided not to pursue a full series it has been wrapped up fairly well with that additional episode.

Ellie is played by Emma Amos's real life daughter.

Oh I see now, thought as much but the surname threw me, thanks for that Deenglow. I didn't read her bio as I presumed she didn't have one with this being her only credit but see it is an acting family.

The whole time I was watching and thinking they look so similar (the father can't be happy about that!)

yea my mum picked up on how close they looked alike! good casting ! lets hope this gets a full season.
