Frasier and Roz

Maybe this is just me, but I really don't like the way the show ended with Frasier supposedly going to meet Charlotte in Chicago. Am I the only one that wanted to see him end up with Roz? I think they are definitely opposites, but sometimes opposites attract. maybe it's just me...

reply

Not just you. They left it with fans thinking Martin and Niles live happy with their spouses. Putting Frasier and Roz together would have rounded out all the main characters on the show.

reply

Well, I would have preferred Roz. But I would have preferred Cam Newton to Charlotte. I'm of two minds about Roz-- I like the idea that they can just be really good friends, but it might have been cool for them to hook up.

I'm still hoping he met Kate Costas in Chicago, and they ended up together.

Otherwise, I think Faye should have been the one. Never Charlotte. Blech.

You might have missed the episode where they did, in fact, hook up. It was just once, after her breakup with the garbageman. They both regretted it instantly.
I liked Frasier with Charlotte. Both exuded confidence to cover their core insecurities. Both had been knocked down by life experiences and personal disappointments. Both were in the business of helping people find happiness and fulfillment while finding it difficult to achieve their own. They found humor in the same things. To me, they were soulmates.

Personally, I didn't care for them hooking up in the first place, though good humor came out of that fling in subsequent episodes(Moons over Seattle, Enemy at the Gate).

For the most part, I liked how the relationships on the show were written.

Partly, because the main characters are written with wit, dignity, and are really well-drawn, partly because the relationships are grounded in the family dynamic.

I really liked how they avoided the relationship cliches:- couples breaking up, coming back together again, peripheral characters being stretched, saddled with long term partners, etc. I'm glad that didn't happen.

Leaving the family in the center is what made the show compelling for me.

One of the reasons why I think Niles and Daphne worked as a couple is because they remained in equal part members of the Crane family, so you get a real sense of character development for them.

That's why I think it would have been a mistake to have Roz and Frasier together

For one, they didn't have any chemistry on the romantic front, in my opinion, and their short fling felt like a contrived plot device.
But also because then it would have seemed cliched for Frasier to fall back on Roz,after seeing him fail with every other woman.

reply

Absolutely not. Frasier and Roz had a great relationship, but no romantic spark, and just because they hooked up one time does not mean there is spark. The fact is if there had been any real spark they wouldn't have stopped at one time. I do wish they had had Frasier officially end up with someone though and be happy rather than just having him take one more chance that may or may not work out. Frankly I thought having him go after Charlotte while romantic in thought was probably a bad idea. It's too much pressure on a relationship that was only few weeks in for person to move across the country for the other. What if it doesn't work out and you want to break up but you feel like you can't because the other person changed their whole life for you?

Sadly my two favorite sitcoms Frasier & Seinfeld both had atrocious finales.

Yes Frasier should have ended up with Roz. It just made sense, I also hated the fact the Dad ended up with their old nanny and the actress choice for her was wrong as well.

reply

Seinfeld finale was exactly in line with the rest of the show. Obviously Jerry was doing stand-up in jail - only Seinfeld could have thought of something like that. Besides, their whole credo was that it was a show about nothing - an ending that neatly ties everything up for the characters would have violated comedic integrity.

Frasier and Roz together make absolutely zero sense (I mean, if you want to end up with someone who never had any romantic feelings for you (and vice versa), then sure, go ahead, but that does mean that it makes sense), and besides, a good ending does not and should not mean pairing everyone up.

I feel like it would have been GREAT if they did, but I also was okay with them not, because it seemed like a TOO-perfectly-packaged end if he and Roz got together. Of course, we can always imagine he ended up with Roz, but I actually liked the ending with the Charolette thing.

reply

You mean eleven seasons of no sexual chemistry whatsoever mean that the characters should end up together?.. 🙄

You people are weird.

reply

Yeah Roz and Frasier were like brother and sister types. No sexual chemistry whatsoever.

reply

Agree. Frasier wanted a female version of Niles. A woman interested in Opera and the like. Roz was more like Martin.

reply

Frasier and Roz did not have much in common. Their friendship was too valuable to be a romantic couple.

Also there are a sprinkling of comments Frasier made in the years that indicated she was a bit too experienced a woman for him. When he thought Niles was interested in her after Niles said he wanted to make a fresh start he responded that "Roz is not the freshest start he could make."

To me the issue was never Frasier and Roz as a couple but when and where they might be needy enough to have sex with each other. And one night they did and another night they almost did.
