I can't even find the video release here in the US. Someone was kind enough to send me a VHS copy of a copy. It's pretty grainy, but I at least get to see it! I would love to have a DVD of it. ANYONE??!!

try searching for the title perfect crimes collection

thats how they sell it in europe

reply

No, that's not it. Although the "perfect crimes" DVDs look interesting, it's not Fallen Angels.

Fallen Angels was a six episode series shown originally on Showtime. Later released in the USA on two videos with three episodes each. They featured the following:

The Frightening Frammis
Story by Jim Thompson
Teleplay by Jon R. Baitz & Howard A. Rodman
Directed by Tom Cruise

I'll Be Waiting
Story by Raymond Chandler
Teleplay by C. Gaby Mitchell
Directed by Tom Hanks

Dead-End for Delia
Story by Campbell Gault
Teleplay by Scott Frank
Directed by Phil Joanou

Murder, Obliquely
Story by Cornell Woolrich
Teleplay by Amanda Silver
Directed by Alfonso Cuaron

The Quiet Room
Story by Jonathan Craig
Teleplay by Howard A. Rodman
Directed by Steven Soderbergh

Since I Don't Have You
Story by James Ellroy
Teleplay by Steven Katz
Directed by Jonathan Kaplan

These would be brilliant to see on DVD as my VHS copies are pretty decrepid. Tom Hanks' was the best one, he also acted in it as the villian and gave a note perfect performance. Great stuff!

reply

Well at least you have seen them.

The 'Perfect Crimes' collection sold in Europe contains all nine episodes of season 2.

Murder, Obliquely was my favorite because of my sweet Alan Rickman. I don't blame him for killing Diane Lane. She looked cheap in that episode. This is the only episode I have seen. I wish I could get my hands on all of these episodes. Since I love gary oldman I sure would love to see that episode.

i just borrowed 'the last seduction' by john dahl. there's a short film on the dvd (german release) called 'tomorrow i die' also directed by dahl. on imdb it says that it's part of the fallen angels series but i don't know anything more about it.

Wikipedia (the part in English) has production information on all the episodes.

Just to make things clearer, Fallen Angels and Perfect Crimes are the same show, but Perfect Crimes is the UK DVD title (over 3 volumes, with 3 episodes per disc) for season 2 of Fallen Angels.

They all played in the UK on BBC2 under the title Fallen Angels and Season 1 was released in the UK over 3 volumes (2 episodes per tape) on VHS by Polygram Filmed Entertainment, whilst Season 2 was released to DVD as Perfect Crimes by a budget music and DVD comapany called Prism Leisure which at that time acted as a third party releasing company (hence the bare bones presentation on their titles across the board). You used to be able to pick them up for £2.99 each from the now-defunct Music Zone stores and they would pop up in bargain sections of supermarkets from time to time (I got one disc from Tesco for 99p). They have now been deleted from Prism's catalogue.

Season 1 has never appeared on legit DVD anywhere as far as I can tell although some grey-market DVD-Rs from the VHS tapes pop up from time to time.

As to why Season 1 has never made it to DVD given the stellar names involved on the talent side, most likely it comes down to rights complications.

Given the Polygram Filmed Entertainment (PFE) connection to season 1, they may have been tied up with the sell off of that company - it was released in 1993, so if PFE still had them the rights will most likely have gone to MGM who bought up most PFE product dated pre-1996, or it could have gone to Universal who bought up the rest. If they are currently owned by Universal, then you'd have to have both CBS (who own Showtime) and NBC (who own Universal) reaching an agreement.

It's probably a nightmare to figure out how much to pay everyone and you'd need three or four companies to agree a deal to release them and any profits probably wouldn't cover the lawyer's fees with a cake cut into that many pieces.

So it's unlikely that we'll ever see them hit DVD I'm afraid, but I'll keep my fingers crossed...

Can't anyone upload this show? On rapidshare or as a torrent?

I'd love to see them on DVD! My VHS copies are getting worn down. If and when they are released, I hope it includes the 'making of' featurette that Showtime aired.
