Same set as 'Everybody Loves Raymond?'

I used to always watch Dave's World when it was on Monday Nights. Now I always watch Everybody loves Raymond and after seeing both shows, I can't help to notice that both the homes (sets) look extremely similar. If you take away the kitchen island and change the staircase in the living room the Dave's World home becomes the Everybody Loves Raymond home. Wonder if it is indeed the same set but just modified slightly?

now that i think back on when i used to watch dave's world i see what you mean. could be they recycled the set and made some slight modifications to it for ray's house. they were both cbs shows after all. maybe someone will have an answer to this question.

reply

i swear...it looks exactly like the "Yes, Dear" set! A few little details are changed, but i think its the same set!

reply

if the set from Yes Dear isnt the same set its damn near close too it

EVERY sitcom uses a similar looking set. They're not the same, it's just that there are only so many configurations that will work on TV. You need a wide room with easy access to the kitchen. Think Cosby Show, King of Queens, According to Jim, Married with Children, etc etc. They are all laid out similarly.

Actually the kitchen island was a very important part of Dave's World. Some may remember the missing tile that was never replaced throughout the entire series and became the focal point of at least one episode.I always thought that little comedic touch was pure genius.

its the same set.

You know, I never actually watched "Dave's World", but I have seen parts of episodes before, and I do kind of have an image in my head that the "Yes, Dear" set has a lot of similarities. But since someone mention "Everybody Loves Raymond", I noticed last night when I watching a rerun that an exterior shot of a house resembled an exterior shot of the Burleigh's house from "Coach".

agreed. The first time I watched "Yes, Dear," I suddenly remembered the failed "Dave's World," but no one else in my family remembered the show to back me up. It definitely looks like the same set, and the "Raymond" set is very similar as well.

reply

sorry but Dave's World wasn't "failed' it ran for four years and also in syndication with 100 episodes.

reply

Like Yes Dear and the pilot of Still Standing

reply

Excuse me but "DAVE'S WORLD" was in no way a "failed" series. That is just ignorant. The show ran for four years and made close to 100 episodes. It first two seasons it was a ratings hit for CBS and then CBS tried to use it to start a comedy night on Fridays - something that hadn't worked for CBS since the early 70's. You may not have watched "DAVE'S WORLD" but in no way was it a failure. "YES DEAR" would be considered more of a failure than "DAVE'S WORLD". Even though it stayed on, Yes Dear got ravaged by the critics year in, year out.

reply

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm pretty sure they are different sets. When "Raymond" premiered, it was on a Friday night....right after "Dave's World". Check both pages, "Dave's"'s 4th season and "Raymond"'s 1st season both premiered on 09/13/96.

What? Did they go out live?

reply

While it does look the same (same could be said for "Yes, Dear", there's no way it could be the same set because "Raymond" started in 1996 and "Dave's World" was canceled in 1997 so unless they completely stripped down the "Dave" set after every taping and put up "Raymond"'s set dressing, it can't be the same. CBS probably just uses a standard set template for all it's shows (King of Queens and Still Standing's set look similar) when the producers don't have an original idea.

Ha Ha...I always noticed that the Loves Raymond home had the exact same configuration as the set for 'All in the Family', the only difference is the larger size and the open access to the kitchen.
