dvd out this week in the uk ,a great view of a time and place

The dvd is out in the UK this week.
I remember this series as being very good.
It comments on the trendy far left of the 1970s,lots of actors saying they were revolutionary communists,lots of people falling for the mystical east rubbish of the gurus and cults,lots of people falling for rock stars versions of their lives.
I was 10 in 1970 and 20 in 1980.
This series rang a lot of bells in my memory of the 1970s.

It would be fun,and against the libel laws,to guess who the rock star and the lefty actor is meant to be.

What time period exactly is this set in? Im guessing around 1971-1981? I could not imagine British asians acting the way they did in buddha of subrubia in the 70s!

I would estimate between about 1974 and 1979. It definitely ends in 1979, as there is footage of Margaret Thatcher's election victory right at the end.

long time for a reply but the story is based on the author"s own life,if he says some asians exploited the soft headed middle classes in the 1970s I am not going to argue with him.
Likewise the lefty actors ring true to the period.
