Can Anyone Explain S1 E1 with Feeny Cooking the Salad?

When Cory sees Feeny from his treehouse cooking dinner, he sees Feeny pick up the phone and then hang up and then Feeny starts cleaning off the table as if his date canceled on him.

The next day in school Feeny is talking to Cory about Romeo & Juliet and the power of love and he says, "Some people know the power of love....and prepare salads." This implies he had a date cancel on him.

Then later in the episode, Feeny asks out a teacher and says, "I made a salad for my sister the other night but she had to cancel at the last minute." Cory looks all confused and Feeny goes, "Confused Mr Matthews?" and Cory says "Yes I am sir" and Feeny says, "As it should be."

My question is, did Feeny prepare salad for his sister or a date? And if it was his sister, why did he relate it to love with the Romeo & Juliet play?

Here's the episode in case anyone wants to see:

He made the salad for his sister. Corey and the viewers are led to believe that Feeney had a date cancel on him. But it was his sister. At the very end, Feeney asks the female teacher out, which confirms that he didn’t have a date on the night of the salad dinner.

As for why he referenced “prepare salads” during the Romeo & Juliet lecture, the scriptwriters were further trying to make the viewer think that a date canceled on Feeney, just as Corey did. This way, the eventual reveal that it was his sister becomes more surprising.

Did you watch this episode ?

Umm ... yes?

Les on fare or derrerier are not words in English, French, or any other language.

reply

It is English but the salad was also a metaphor with the different toppings each had layers to the story
