Timeline

Maybe it's been mentioned on here before, but I never understood how they went from being 12 years old and in 6th grade in the first season to being in high school in the second season. I seem to remember reading that the show skipped a year at some point but even if that's true, that would only put them in 8th grade in season two and 8th grade is not high school.

Season 2 was 7th Grade, but John Adams High was Grades 7-12 so it was considered high-school.

reply

That seems odd to me. I've never heard of a high school that's grades 7-12. I guess the idea behind it was so that they could have Cory and Eric go to the same school.

reply

A lot of schools in smaller towns do that.

They have div 1 schools (K-6) and Div 2 schools (7-12) Quite common actually.

reply

I know small towns will sometimes have them in the same building and will have their entire school on one campus since they are so small, but their high school transcript still begins in 9th grade just like everyone else. And on BMW they weren't in a small town, they were in Philadelphia.

reply

Yes yes... I was simply telling you it is quite a common practice for some school districts to do it that way. I live ina big city, and there are quite a few 7-12 schools.

reply

Yea I guess they felt it allowed more for the show. Rather than it being Grades 7-8 where the kids are all pretty much the same age still. And while true it is Philly, it is still a fictional TV show so its whatever.

In Season 1 Episode 13 "She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not", Eric visits the 6th Grade class to talk to them about what they can expect "next year" going to their new school John Adams High as 7th graders. https://youtu.be/Ki84_p3SMmw Starts at 1:55 I loved this show.

I picked up on something that I don't think I noticed or mentioned before. In the first episode of the 2nd season, Harley is ready to beat up Cory. Cory says he's not going to run, because he'd rather take a beating than to be the "school coward for the next 6 years"

So yea it was definitely just a 7-12 high school, which I guess made sense for the shows purposes.
