Am I the only one who loves the first season? Why do people dislike it?

In most topics, I would see someone say that "The first season of BMW is not that good." I really don't understand why because for me, it was the funniest season because the lines were absolutely funny. The fact that kids were saying those lines made it more funny. Young Morgan made me laugh a lot too. Can someone please enlighten me why most of you don't like the first season?

I love the first season too.

I think people dislike it because it's so different from the other years, not as edgy, and more traditional and "Disney". But Cory was 11 so that makes sense. Sure, not all the characters are what they would become, but there are great episodes here, Alan's not a jerk, and wonderful Feeny moments.

Also, I think some of the younger fans who didn't grow up with season 1 first run (when that's just what Boy Meets World was) look on it as hokey and don't have nostalgia for it in the same way they do for later seasons.

The show hadn't reached it's peak yet plus they weren't facing as many problems. They were in the innocence stage.

I liked it because Cory didn't act like such a homo.

Going back and rewatching it, I have more respect for it now than I did at the time. But it's not one of the stronger seasons and I find myself laughing less (in fact, hardly at all) in that season than the other ones. Also, the characters just don't feel like who I know them to be. In particular, Eric, Topanga, and even Cory himself all have very little resemblance to the characters they'd eventually become.

I think Season 7 is the worst season, but Season 1 is the least funny.

I think season 1 might have more laugh out loud moments than most of the other seasons.

My favorite thing about Boy Meets World is how the tone of the show matures as Cory ages. It starts out really innocent and lighthearted and it gets more serious as Cory actually learns more about the world that he meets.

But yeah, the first season is classic.

Really? Wow. I feel like Season 1 was way more the gentle kind of Full House humor that might warrant smiles and chuckles and not so much laughter. The show only became funny in Season 2, and didn't hit its humor heights until Season 4, in my opinion.

I think the show is funny throughout -- with the humor dwindling out the last two seasons (although there were still moments).

I don't know what it is about season 1... Lily Nicksay made me laugh quite a bit.

Exchanges like:

"Mommy, if my dolly is cold can I put her in the toaster oven?"
"No, Morgan... that would be a mistake."
"Mommy? I made a mistake."

And some of Cory's lines (especially reacting to Feeny's teachings in class) make me laugh. "It's like Tiny Tim and that story about Carol" and "That Ed Poe must have been a major freak-oid." It never gets old.

Plus, I think Lee Norris who played Minkus was one of the better side characters and he brought a lot of funny moments.

Season 1 definitely isn't my favorite (that would probably be season 4), but I do appreciate it and I think there was a lot of under appreciated moments.

Lily Nicksay as Morgan was best in season 1. Before being replaced, the other seasons she was in she barely gets any screentime.

The only reason I think some dislike it is because of how different 1-2 is compared to 3-5 and 6-7. It's really three different shows, so someone who really likes aspects of later seasons may look to 1 and 2 and find all of those aspects missing.

I personally love the first season, as you said the writing is quality and humorous and they put together an unusually large cast of capable child actors. I think S2 is even better really.

I think they made it seem like different shows to reflect the different stages of Cory's life.

The first two years, he was a little young to have serious problems.

Then in season 3, they started treating him like a teenager, and gave him teenage problems to deal with. And develop his relationship with Topanga, and focus on their high school years.

Seasons 6-7 were their college years. And Cory and Topanga got married.

So, that is probably why it seems like 3 different shows.

I love the first season! It has some really great, memorable episodes. In fact, I'd say Teacher's Bet is definitely in my top five. Sure, things were different, the characters changed drastically over the seasons. Isn't that also true in real life? People change between childhood and adulthood.

The first season of BMW was tied with Season 4 for my favorite. I think the main reason a lot of people didn't like season 1 was because, like other people are saying, they are used to the storylines of the later seasons and prefer those. The first season, while I did not care for characters that I eventually grew to love, like Shawn and Topanga, had the best and most relateable episodes. I felt like the first and second seasons had more of a "happy-go-lucky" feeling, while the later seasons contained more angst and sad endings. I liked the later seasons, too, except most of season 7, but I agree with you. The first season had excellent writing.
