Who were some of B+B's favorite bands?

Aside from the obvious two choices of Metallica and AC/DC from their t-shirts, were there any specific artists that the boys liked more than others?

I only saw a few episodes of this back when it aired; but from what I remember they absolutely loved Snoop, I think they thought Prince was cool, and one episode ended with them dancing to R.E.M.'s "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?"

Who were some of the bands whose videos always got favorable reviews on the show?

reply

Pantera always seemed to be very well-received by them.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers...for most part.

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.
Sony 16:9

Winger... obviously huge closet cases about their fandom.

Beavis likes Bon Jovi.

Dinosaurs didn't go extinct. Jesus ate them.

Gwar, Butthole Surfers, Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre and Run DMC off the top of my head.

reply

Ah yes, Gwar, of course!

Can't forget Sir Mix-A-Lot

Iron Maiden

very strange that they liked Iron Maiden (though yes I believe they did) when they badmouthed and hated a bunch of bands that sound similar

reply

What bands sound similar to Maiden that Beavis & Butthead didn't like? Iron Maiden was not hair metal.

Gretta

I seem to remember them really enjoying Alice In Chains

Mike Judge said in an interview that he tried to give B&B open minds about new music, hence they tended to enjoy rap and gangster style stuff because Judge thought kids where heading in that direction. To some extent, he was right.

Butthead didn't particularly like Metallica. I remember 2 or 3 Metallica videos and most of the time Butthead would put the band down, pissing off Beavis.

They tended to enjoy Alice Cooper, they never really bad mouthed him at all.

They pissed me off once by saying, "Damn it, if this is those Warrant wusses" but I can forgive them for that, that band did get type cast as only being known for the one song. But the rest of there stuff is very underated.

They hated Winger. Hence why Stuart wore that on his shirt.

However, for the majority of clips. They where mostly clips MTV probably played one time, and where asked if Mike would do B&B to them to make fun of how bad they where. That's why a lot of the clips came up from artists you had not heard of before. Then they would chuck in some you did know to throw you off the track that a majority of them where crap that wouldn't have surfaced again if it werent for B&B's commentary.... well, no one thought youtube would come along years later back then. However, on reruns, quite alot of the unknown crap was switched for more popular bands. Then you'd end up seeing an episode, and think, "wait, they didn't review that clip last time i saw this episode"... it got annoying at one point when I watched 3 episodes once that had the same video clip in it. It was that clip to Bjork on the back of a truck or whatever. I don't think it originally aired during the Cornholio episode, but it was there the second time, and then during the next two episodes I watched.

Also these edits where done on Australian broadcasts, not on MTV. So I don't know if someone was having fun mixing songs up during the show, or if perhaps international broadcasts where mashed up a bit and somehow the original recording tapes where broadcast too? Who knows, but it happened.

I wonder if Beavis and Butthead's opinions were what Mike Judge thought of those particular music artists. I was watching a clip of Beavis and Butthead watching Silverchair's "Tomorrow" music video and they were trashing the band. I wonder if Mike Judge really did hate Silverchair?

reply

I think Butthead only pretended to hate Metallica because it pissed off Beavis.
