The Nostalgia Is Near And Dear To My Heart, But...

The jokes didn't age well AT ALL! I was so excited to have the opportunity to watch the series start to finish, but found myself becoming extremely bored midway through the first season. I can't quite put my finger on what has gotten lost in translation. Anyone else have a different opinion of the show after re-watching as an adult?

Yep. I didn't think it was as bad as you're describing.

Some of the jokes are dated, sure, but that's the same with lots of classic cartoons. It doesn't help that there are shows like Family Guy and South Park that essentially thrive on pop-culture references, and are still going strong so it seems like their "jokes" are fresh... but not really. In some cases they're more dated than the classic ones used in Animaniacs.

Personally I think there's still some great nostalgic value in Animaniacs.

That's a very good point! I used to watch both of those shows religiously. Now I only watch them occasionally, especially Family Guy because people post the best clips on social media anyway.

I've been watching a few episodes on Netflix (even though I own most of the DVD's) and a while a few of the jokes are dated, I think the show has aged pretty well. It's still entertaining.

Sure, some jokes have ages a little. That's always going to happen to some degree, no matter what the show. That said, it's aged pretty well. There's many jokes and gags which still hold up today, and remain just as funny.

I wouldn't expect a kids show to be funny as an adult. I'm surprised that some of the jokes and amazing puns are still quite funny.

I'm still trying to memorize the countries of the world song. It's not funny but it's a good nostalgia rouser to share with people.
