The ones smart enough to lead this country are the ones that aren't dumb enough to run for office.

*Passed

It's not the years, honey; it's the mileage.

**Past

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

reply

Nice try, but you're thinking of 'past' as in 'past, present, future'. In this case, the word is 'passed' as in the past-tense of pass, which is what these jokes managed to do with regards to the censors.

Passed - past-tense of 'pass'
Past - the time, or a period of time no longer existing

It's not the years, honey; it's the mileage.

reply

Passed is a verb. You can have passed a test.
Past is an adverb. You can drive past a hitchhiker.

reply

No, you're wrong.

It's not the years, honey; it's the mileage.

reply

It's definitely Past, not Passed. Passed would be like 'I never got passed the ball in the last game'

reply

Okay, I think maybe you're right.

It's not the years, honey; it's the mileage.

According to Google:

Remember that no matter however you have ”passed the time” you have never “past the time,” not even in the distant past. “Past” can be an adjective, a noun, a preposition, or an adverb, but never a verb. If you need to write the past tense of the verb “to pass,” use “passed.”

In the case, the dirty jokes had to pass the censors approval. Therefore, passed.

Although, I wonder if UK English does in fact use past, and both parties are actually correct here. And perhaps I've just done an incorrect search into the matter and I'm still wrong, lol.

reply

Actually, it's past. In this sentence "get" is the verb. So they had to get the jokes through the censors' approval, and past the censors. The jokes themselves had to pass the censors' approval.

So many years later... it's still a terrible early NC vid that leaves out a lot of the really clever ones for the sake of the obvious ones that everyone's seen a million times already.

18 Adult Jokes In Animaniacs That Flew Over Your Head As A Kid.

I know they somehow got the Minerva going skinny-dipping past the censors. Yes ,they finally shade her after she drops the towel but before that ,Yakko & Wakko run up trying to get a peek at her!

These guys are (permanently) 12 & 10 yars old.

That surprised me that it was allowed.

Adult jokes? I was 25 when the show started in 1993 ,so I got the jokes.

My favorite one is when Noah is loading the ark and our two favorite bunnies, "Buster and Babs Bunny---no relation", from Tiny Toons cameo.

So after saying ... "no relation"

Noah breaks the forth wall, "Let's hope not, it's a children's show."

An incest joke?

An INCEST joke!?

How the hell did that get past the censors? Were they laughing too hard to care?

reply

I don't think it was necessarily an incest joke (although it could be read that way). I took it as Noah saying he hoped they had "no relations" on a kids' show--and you can probably guess what he meant by "having relations."
