Updated Pete+Pete

I won't lie, I'm mostly doing this because I'm bored but I have been kicking this idea around in my head. Basically, it's the idea of updating the Pete&Pete format in the present time.

Anyone have any opinions or ideas of how you would do I modern take on the Pete&Pete world? Can it even be done with how the world has changed since the early 90's and still maintain the awesomeness of the original? I don't have to many solid ideas, except I would set my show in Wellsville (of course), center it around cool, weird kids, and have some of the original P+P characters show up.

I don't know how a remake could ever translate properly since the world is so much more different from the early 90's. I guess you could integrate iPads and stuff and odd kids like those in the show could probably find innovative things to do with them, but it could never at all feel close to the same. There are ideas that could work now which would have been cool with the original characters, have little Pete be a campaign manager for a kid in a class president race, have a ghost hunters type episode, they could have done a summer camp salute your shorts crossover episode back in the day, a school dance where a character plans a Carrie style revenge (just not as violent), a episode involing a call of duty type online game, and another Halloween episode similar to the one from the first season of Dawson's Creek. Those are all themes which would work back then or now but I don't know how it would turn out.

I like some of those ideas. For some reason I can see the characters, in a crisis, pulling out their ipads/iphones to come up with solutions. And probably failing lol.

I guess I'm just wish there would be a quality program for my kid to enjoy when he is older, like I had Pete&Pete. Not the crap they have these days. Honestly, even a half-assed Pete&Pete update/remake would be better then most of the crap they have these days for kids.

I think a new Pete&Pete show could work if the writing and ideas were strong. As long as the people behind it made it as surreal and touching as it was originally.

That would be amazing, if as said many times already, it were done correctly. When I watched Pete & Pete, I knew what I was watching was strange and in a way stupid, but it was done so well that it didn't matter. If someone who knew enough about the original show could recapture that I would be all for it. I know many, many things have changed, but if the right person knew how to work with that, it would be amazing!

I agree, though I don't know that I would ever call Pete&Pete stupid. In fact, it had some very intelligent story telling, especially if you think about how it was intended for children. I could see them using a new cast of kids and other characters, setting it in Wellsville, and referencing the Pete&Pete. Maybe even have the old school characters show up now and then. Lil'Pete as an adult is something a would pay to see.
