Motorcycle episode: why the lever???

In the episode "Steel Horses"(the one with motorcycles), Wickwire sees a lever and says something like, "Hold on, what's this lever? Don't pull it; I have no idea what it does." On TV, when someone says "Don't pull this lever," you know it'll be pulled. But this time, it wasn't! So what did the lever do?!
