Is Die zweite Heimat available to buy on VHS or DVD anywhere?

Yes - "Heimat" and "Die Zweite Heimat" are available on VHS at http://www.absolutmedien.de/

Together with the launch of "Heimat3" in December 2004 there will be a complete publication of the Trilogy on DVD at http://www.kinowelt.de/

I've just had a look at www.kinowelt.de and seen the details of the DVD releases of all three series. Although it simply says "DVD Sprachen/Ton: Deutsch", it doesn't say if the DVDs also include subtitles in English. Can anyone tell me if the DVDs of this Arthaus edition have English subtitles?

No, this edition does not have any subtitles. Spoken Language is only German. On Amazon.com you can find an edition of "Heimat" on DVD with English subtitles and an edition of "Die Zweite Heimat" on VHS (I do not know the language of this).

Thanks for the confirmation. I guess we'll have to wait for a region 1 release (US/Canada) before we get subtitled DVDs of Heimats 2 and 3. A great shame for English-speakers outside North America - though all the more reason to get a multi-region DVD player I suppose!

though quite expensive, Heimat 2 has been available for almost a year now in the UK. English subbed of course.
