I vaguely remember a scene in this movie where Jennifer Grey is sitting on the ground watching Matthew Modine doing something or other, and I swear she is bare-assed. Anyone recall this or was this just the wet dream of a desperate "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" fan?

You're correct. It is in the very beginning of the movie and she is naked. She was watching Matthew swimming.

Well, it's a long shot from behind and you can't see her face at all, not even her profile. My guess is that a body double was used.
