What's the pay-off

Though this movie has a lot of beautiful shots, especially in the beginning and end scenes, and has an artistic aura around it, i fail to see what the pay-off was for sitting through some very long-winded, and often boring scenes in the middle. The mystery was ok, though at times obvious (spoilers... Right from the get-go i knew Jackson was crooked, there was almost no hints at all that Rourke was CIA), and the ending was frustrating because only an idiot would have gone into that room to get a briefcase. It was an obvious set-up, and someone with Rourke's character's intelligence would have sniffed it out. It seems like the whole movie was just an excuse to show off someone with a suit running with a briefcase through the beautiful scenary of White Sands

I agree. Though atleast the acting was decent at times.

I hated the film's ending. I don't see why Dafoe couldn't stay with that women from Scarface (Forgot her name). She really cared for him. He really can't return home to his wife and be a small town sherif. How would he explain any of this to anyone? Forget it, stay. Also Dafoe really got nothing out of solving this crime. He didn't get money, fame or prevented a HUGE terriost attack like 9/11 or something. It simply didn't affect him in anyway. He just got involved in something he didn't need to and now his life is extremely altered and can not be fixed.

And leave Mimi Rogers for Mastrantonio? Inconceivable.

What Dafoe got out of it was saving Lane's life. Apparently the two FBI internal affairs agents were the only two to know that Dafoe was involved. So once they were killed the only people who could link Dafoe to the whole affiar were infinitely more guilty than him and had no way of pinning the mess on Dafoe......It made very little sense, there was an explanation of sorts...

And both these guys,The FBI and The CIA cannot differentiate between a bagful of sand and Paper tied up in wads, just by the weight or just shaking The briefcase. And They say Bollywood movies are stupid.

The ending of the movie is unsatisfactory.

The first half of the movie consists of making an absurdly complicated situation.

And the second half of the movie unravels the complications by, well, pretty much killing off all of the characters.

Not very slick.

it is kinda satisafactory in that the bad guys get their comeuppance no???
