Even auteur directors like commercial movies. Hitchcock loved Smokey and the Bandit; PT Anderson loves Men in Black 3; and supposedly Christopher Nolan loves Michael Bay movies.

The only one that really surprises me is the Michael Bay movies. I can see the appeal of the others.
