I was wondering the same thing.

I have no idea either. I have concluded that there was no real point to his character. Other than the fact that people with disabilities can be homeless as well. There is no other reason I can think of. David Orth Message Board

I noticed the main kids only interacted with Will Smith's character on a few street scenes. Never in the area where they sleep or by the trains.

I take it Will's character had two purposes.

- To show a young guy, the same age as the main characters who is disabled and homeless

- To give Tommy Ray another chance to be a scum bucket so when Little J kills him later, we won't feel bad for him. How mean to dump a double leg amputee out of his chair and beat on him?

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

"Where the Day Takes You" was Will Smith's film debut.

I remember wondering myself, and my thoughts are that he was either;

1. found and helped up and he just moved and didn't want to be associated with them anymore.

2. found by police/social services and wound up in an institution.
