Matt + his crew

Just wondering - was there any reason why they had to have their loud, drunken parties in the front yard? Why couldn't they have them in the back yard (where just about everyone I know has parties if they are outside) or inside the house? Wouldn't that have solved the problem instead of being loud and annoying?

reply

I think the film was trying to portray them as annoying, which they were.
They certainly did NOT deserve to be shot!
But they literally invited trouble of sorts by deliberately partying loud.
They were immature & frankly rude. They didn't care about partying quietly.

No, the definitely didn't deserve to be shot. But they further escalated things by going on the guy's property.

Truthfully, I didn't like them (Matt anyway)from the start. When Gary told them they didn't drink, why did that make him a "jerk"? There could be any number of reasons a person doesn't drink, and that does not make them a "jerk". But I guess when you live to drink, that's your mentality.

I agree, they never should have gone on his property. They surely knew Gary was mentally unstable, judging by previous arguments with the Cochrans.
Continuing to party, loudly no less, in your front yard when people ask you nicely not to is just being a jackass.

As to the comment, I think this was more a reaction to the way Gary refused their gift than it was about him not drinking.

Jessica had just happily accepted their gift, when Gary snatched it away & rudely snapped "We don't drink!"
He could have smiled & said "Thanks very much for the welcome gift, but we can't drink." or something along those lines.

Good point. It seemed like they both got off on the wrong foot. I will say it was probably more Gary's fault, he seemed to not like anyone at all.
