Can't believe this doesn't even have 2 pages of forum message boards!

This movie is a classic! Just watched it for (maybe) the 10th time, because it's recently been put on instant Netflix and it gets better every with every view. I will say that some of the jokes are the kinds that reference pop culture of that period so I can understand why some would not get some of the stuff (maybe 5% of the jokes, like grey poupon...which was awesome). Still, such an awesome comedy. Where's the imdb love?

IMDb purges boards at random intervals. They claim theres a reason, but sometimes it doesn't seem to make much sense.

They need to periodically free up data space on their site. Popular movies, tv shows or other entries with excessive amounts of comments eventually get erased..

Yeah, I imagine this movie was flooded with topics, don't worry, it will build up again. You know how in The Karate Kid they say "Cobra Kai never dies", well in here it's Waynes World never dies.

Free up data space?

IMDB is owned by Amazon. I would be surprised if IMDB didn't run on EC2 and have basically limitless storage.

And how much storage does message board posting take, anyway? The overwhelming number of posts are are well under 1 kbyte in size and are just plain text, no graphics or attachments. The actual storage volume for 4 pages of message board postings each with 5 replies ought to be only about 500k. A terabyte of disk should be good for 2 million posts.

I would think the entire message board system with all its overhead could accommodate pages and pages of messages per entity (show title, person, etc) in a few terabytes of data which really isn't much storage at all.

It's probably reasonable to cap each entity's message board at some maximum number of messages -- 100 pages of messages for a single movie might be unwieldy, but purging messages from a board with only 2-3 pages of posts seems unnecessary.

One more thing I noticed that was unnecessary, if you sign out of your imdb account, you will see older messages. Stupid, I know.
