This film is a freakin' conspiracy!

Okay, so I am an average movie lover, I enjoy all genres and have seen thousands of films in my life. I find IMDb ratings tend to mirror my own opinions for the most part, and from time to time I have a personal favourite that didn't rate in the general public eye. Fair enough.

And then I watched Wayne's World. I'd heard about it over the years, and had also seen and absolutely loved Austin Powers. So I thought when I watched it I was going to be wowed.

I honestly thought this was the most plotless, less-than-average, humourless lazy attempt at a comedy I've seen as far as I can remember. I was just so totally disappointed and was left feeling there's a conspiracy or something that no one told me about! Why is it so popular? Was it one of those things that was better at the time? Or pre-Austin Powers was this just considered Myers' best? I just barely laughed, which seems to totally negate the point of watching a comedy!

Please, someone enlighten me how this is considered such a classic!

You just had to be a late 80s/ early 90s kid, man. No other way to explain it. This movie was basically that generation. It's pure radical nostalgia.

Yeah, maybe, that makes sense. I was borne in '87 so was probably about five years too late. I do find myself making the same excuses to other people when explaining away some of my favourite "classics"!

I was born in 87 aswell and I grew up loving this movie. It's probably a case of each to their own.

To think that if Lara Flynn Boyle wasn't contracted for her role in this movie, she might have been able to continue her character of Donna in the Twin Peaks movie.

Plotless? The plot is described in the first few minutes. Benjamin finds a show on TV which he finds meaningless and stupid. His girlfriend tells him it has a serious following so Ben decides to exploit it for money. We then get introduced to the hosts of the show and learn about their lives.

I was born in 90 and I loved it as a kid.

I watched this many times in 1993-1994 when it was still 100% relevant, and I used to find the intentionally funny scenes genuinely funny. I really feel you had to be there. I re-watched it 10 years later (haven't seen it since 2004) and it looked incredibly dated -- amazing how much had changed in those 10 years -- and this I was expecting but what I wasn't expecting was that everything that was so funny to me before wasn't remotely funny anymore. It didn't make me laugh or even smile once.
(Interesting to note, by the way, I distinctly remember the year 1995 as bringing in a lot of drastic pop culture change, as evidence by the movie CLUELESS from that year which is still relevant in 2015, very unlike WAYNE'S WORLD.)
