What people fail to realize is that the original skit was created for Wayne Gretzky when he hosted SNL. And even that skit sucked. This movie sucks

Fail. The Wayne's World sketch featuring Wayne Gretzky was broadcast in May 1989. It was the third Wayne's World sketch on SNL.

Mike Myers actually invented the Wayne character before he was even on SNL, he played the character on an 80s Canadian show called "It's Only Rock And Roll", here he is performing as the character in 1988: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6aOaT6OFk4
