How did Drew Barrymore end up in this?

Just seems like such an odd choice for her. She obviously hadn't reached her A-list status yet, so a cameo in a movie this obscure seems so strange. And obviously she wouldn't have had to do this movie. She was well beyond taking roles as extras.

Did she owe someone a favour? Did she know the director? Did she just happen to be shooting a movie next door and popped by the set for fun? There has to be some explanation.

Drugs.

I was just reading comments on Reddit and the thing is that Drew Barrymore never really went away. What I mean is that she was still making movies even when she was having the problems that she had in her personal life. She was actually was considered a get for Scream in the mid-nineties. It's just that Drew Barrymore didn't officially morph into persona that we know now until The Wedding Singer in 1998.

She started as a child star in mainstream Hollywood movies like ET and Firestarter, then ended up in the straight-to-video market with films like Poison Ivy, Guncrazy, and Doppelganger, slid back into mainstream films with supporting parts (Bad Girls, Boys on the Side, and yes, even Scream) before completing her comeback as a leading actress in films like Wedding Singer, Never Been Kissed, and Charlie's Angels.

Escaping the straight-to-video sector to spend a few years as one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood ought to qualify as a comeback.

I remember how severely disappointed I was when I found out that she did such a tiny cameo. It was a joke, and I was a big fan of hers during the 90s and rented this flick solely because of her. I wanted to see all movies with her at that time which I did.

I was wondering if Drew Barrymore is ashamed/embarrassed by many of the roles that she took in-between Far From Home and Scream. Many of them bordered on the trashy, exploitive, and low budget side. Or she just took at as she needed to pay her bills at the time and took just about any role that was offered to her.

She did claim that she was blacklisted around the time that she entered and exited rehab while she was still in her teens.

It appeared that the roles that she took just played up to what the general public perception was of her at the time. So it's easy to assume that she was simply typecast as a jailbait "bad girl" because that was presumably, all that she was good for or had to offer at the time.
