Why the 20 year gap???

I don't get it, why did the unisols make an appearance 20 years after they died? Why not sooner? And why Vietnam? Why didn't the movie refer to the 1991 Gulf War?

Desert Storm was probably only a few months old when they were developing this film and way too recent to use as a source. I mean, can you see a film about our war dead in Iraq and Afganistan being turned into zombie supersoldiers being made now? I can't.

Anyway, I imagine the concept of an Army sergeant going crazy and wasting an entire innocent village as well as his own men was much more believeable in Vietnam than in the Gulf War.

Finally, you have to admit it, a rain-soaked, Vietnamese village out in the middle of the jungle with mortar rounds hitting all over the place makes a much cooler setting than a dry, featureless desert :P
