Best line of the movie.

well he should have armed himself if he is gonna decorate his establishment with my friend. somethhing to that effect.

"Saloon" in place of "establishment". I agree, great line.

I think "We all got it coming" is the best line. It's the part where the kid is spouting off about how they deserved it. Speaks for the whole movie.

is he dead is he dead? I hated that friggin kid.

My favorite line also. And I've said that myself or something close to it a few times when it fit.

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.
Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

artisandy:

Thank you for quoting the whole scene. I've only seen the movie once, I was going off memory. You really have to put it with all the preceding lines, to really convey the profoundness of those lines. My mistake. I see now it was that kind familiar situation where you are trying something funny to someone, but end up having to say "ahhhh....I guess you had to be there". But to me, it shows how memorable that line is. I couldn't even recite it to you, but I remember how profound it was. That's what I was going off.

reply

This is a film that requires repeated viewings. I often show it to my film students, usually after they've seen Shane, in order to understand the subtle ways it subverts the classic Western.

Okay, I just finished watching this. It was real good! So, here are all my favorite quotes:

"She didn't steal nothin. That's a lie. When he pulled down his trousers and she saw he had a teeny, little pecker, all she did was give a little giggle. That's all."

"We may be whores, but we're not horses."

"So, you just use your hand?"

"Well, I just wondered. Anybody can be scared."
"Well, Little Bill wasn't scared. He just ain't a good carpenter."

"You been talking about the Queen again.... on Independence Day?"

"Well Mr Beauchamp, I was at the Blue Bottle Saloon in Wichita that night, and I didn't see you there, and I didn't see no woman, nor any two-gun shooters."

"But he was called "Two Gun" Corcoran?"
"Some folks did call him that but not because he carried two pistols. They called him that because his dick was so big, it was longer than the barrel on that Walker Colt he carried."

"...but he's so drunk he misses again an' hits the thousand dollar mirror behind the bar."

"You mean, he shot a man without a hand to shoot with?"
"Well, he wasn't going to wait for the man to grow another hand. So, he walked over....real slow, bein drunk, and shot him clean through the liver. Pow."

"I thought you were an angel."

"Would you like a free one?"

"What I said before, how I might look like you... I didn't mean you was ugly like me. You're a beautiful woman. I only meant how we both had scars."

"Is your wife back in Kansas?"
"Yeah, she's watching over my little ones."

"That's what you get for cutting up a woman, you *beep*

"I'll bring your share. Don't listen to what the kid says. The kid's full of *beep*

"Now, Ned... them whores are gonna lie different lies than you... an' when your lies ain't the same as their lies... I ain't gonna hurt no woman, I'm gonna hurt you... and not soft & gentle like I been doin'.... but baaaad."

"Is that what it was like, Bill, in the old days... ridin' out with everybody shootin'... smoke all over an' folks yellin' an' bullets whizzin' by?"
"I guess so."

"Any men that don't want to get killed, best clear out the back."

I'm sure I left out some. But what a great script!

"DUCK I SAYS"...........Love that line!!!

reply

And you just know that Munny has only had that profound thought because hes killed a man (and just about everything else). It was his conscience - nothing hes read, learned in church etc., just time alone, sober for once, and his own thoughts/conscience pecking at him night and day.

reply

You just nailed it artisandy...that is The Quote of this movie and one of the greatest movie quotes of all time. I would only bookmark that to include "take another drink kid" and "well you sure killed the hell out of that guy". Bravo artisans!

reply

"Who owns this s*** hole?"

reply

"Thats right i've killed women and children i've killed everything thats walked or crawled at one time or another and i'm here to kill you little bill"

reply

i like all the lines mentioned above, but i like the simple

" i'll see you in hell william munny.." -little bill

"...yeah.."- william munny. then he shoots him in the face.

that whole scene and everything leading up to it was just great. loved seeing him finally and completely transform into his former self.

" I intend to live forever......So far, so good."

reply

" i'll see you in hell william munny.." -little bill

"...yeah.."- william munny. then he shoots him in the face.

I think that really does sum up the idea of the film. This movie is the antithesis of western movies, showing people who are remoseful of their actions and, as those lines show, are remorseful of their actions. He knows he's going to hell for his actions, so why argue?

reply

There are so many good ones, but my favorite is the one right before this one....

Little Bill: " I don't deserve this."

William Munny: "Deserve's got nothing to do with it."

reply

yip. yip good one! i liked that one too.

"Now go home and get your *beep* shine box" - Goodfellas (1990)

reply

I like in Goodfellas when he says "you, I thought I told you to go F&$@ your mother."

Anyways, I also like when Little Bill goes "I don't deserve this...I'm building a house" or something like that. Those are your final words, huh. Pretty lame.

Yeah, when he's talking about, if anyone tries too shoot him, he'll find your family and kill them. This movie is pretty dark for western, that's probably why I can actually watch this one. Honestly, westerns aren't my favorite. But this movie is freaking righteous.

It actually resounded strong for me, it was the last piece to actually make me like Little Bill a bit more, it even made me feel sad he got killed; I knew he meant good for his people, despite being a psycho motherf@cker, but the fact he put so much effort into bringing peace to his hometown, plus having prospects of leading a peaceful, normal life in that house he was building with so much enthusiasm, just right before he provoked another psycho motherf@cker by "accidentally" killing his only and best friend.

Had it not been for the fact he let -or even probably demanded- Ned's corpse to be displayed as a warning for violent people coming to town, I'd have cried for him and would have seen him as a true antihero once he said that line, but again, given the context of the wild west made it more realistic that scene.

In my opinion, Little Bill did deserve to die, altough it is true that "deserves got nothing to do with it", since William Munny was already coming to kill him even before he saw Ned's corpse displayed in the open.

Hows about we just agree the entire third act, since we've pretty much just re-quoted it in this topic. One of the best written climaxes of all time.

Maybe lol. It's definately an awesome showdown.

"Deserves got nothin' to do with it", hands down. Didn't really understand it when I first saw this - testament to the movies greatness that it has those layers.

Although, "I guess you think I'm kicking you, Bob" has a certain charm...

Little Bill (as he brutally kicks English Bob):
"I guess you think I'm kicking you Bob. But it aint so."

8=)))))

I'm actually quite surprised, after 25 or so messages, that nobody else has picked this one! 8=)

In fact, I love the way Little Bill inserts the word "Bob" into many of his lines in his scenes with EB. ("You were right not to take it Bob. I would have killed you.") It's delicious, the way he makes it sound like a taunt each time.

But its a film full of great lines. Nice to see so many of them here.

Little Bill was indeed a cheeky "Little" bastard, you could understand his motives for doing what he did in his scenes with English Bob, but at the same time really dislike him for the way he indiscriminately taunted "Bhaub".

btw, another great line for me -they all are my faves- "He’s desiring to leave the hospitality of Big Whiskey behind him."

So funny even Munny was ROFL'ing, LOL
