Who else watched this before the show?

And likes it?

It's one of my Lynch favorites, along with The Elephant Man, Eraserhead, and Dune.

His others are good too.

I was considering re-watching the series and this before the upcoming new series..... I have watched them before but my memory of them isn't great and am weighing up whether I should watch this first or watch it after the series??

reply

I would re-watch it before the series (just did actually). It is the beginning after all.

Once both are fresh in the mind, say they've been seen in the last year or so, order might not matter. However, seeing series first and then movie might make it easier to see why the two have such different tones.

The movie is pretty much what got me into the show.

I'd tried to watch the show before but had never really gone past episode 3 or 4. I didn't think it was bad but I just didn't feel that need to keep watching. I already loved a lot of Lynch's work so I guessed there was going to be something really special coming up but I didn't have the patience to sit through hours and hours of mind games to get to it.

I think I decided to watch the movie thinking that in 2 hours I'd finally know "who did it" and I could let it rest. I absolutely loved the movie from my first watch on. Finally knowing what the story was all about (what happened to Laura) made me want to go back and watch the show, which I finally enjoyed just as much as the movie - minus everything past the resolution of Laura's murder. I needed to know the bottom line of what happened to be able to enjoy looking for all the clues leading up to the resolution. I most definitely enjoyed the supporting storylines but Laura's story is what really resonated with me and the treatment of it was fantastic.

I like that the movie took a darker spin on the story and gave Laura's point of view and I love that the show is lighter and gives everyone else's point of view. Given the story I find it a very appropriate and smart choice. Sheryl Lee is also brilliant.

I watched it before the show, sort of.

I watched the pilot with the European ending first. Then FWWM.

Later I watched all of the episodes.

Loved it all.
