Yes indeed, this 'live' version of Tosca in the appropriate geographical settings is part of a trilogy with two other Puccini operas, Manon Lescaut and La Fanciulla del West (The Girl of the Golden West). Placido Domingo sings the tenor lead here in all three operas: with Catherine Malfitano as the lead in Tosca, with Kiri te Kanawa as Manon, and with Carol Neblett as Minnie in La Fanciulla. I have seen Domingo live in all three of these at Lyric Opera in Chicago and enjoyed them immensely -- but there is something quite special about seeing him and Malfitano sing Tosca live in the actual story locations in Rome ... I remember seeing it here in Chicago on PBS and having to mark my calendar and set my clock to catch it at the correct time of day. Just marvelous!
