THE WORST CARTOON MOVIE EVER!!

Ever since I was 4, I have had a love for Tom and Jerry, it's just one of those cartoons you just can't grow out of. Naturally, when I heard there was going to be a feature length movie, I could hardly wait.

But I was quickly disappointed with what I saw. I REALLY hate the fact that Tom and Jerry can talk, the fact that they couldn't talk in the MGM cartoons was the key to the comedy.

I think the people behind this movie should be ashamed of themselves for turning out "such a load of garbage" and practically destorying the originallity of the cartoon series.

i think they tried too hard to bring it to a new audience. all the silence worked well for 5 minutes but for a feature film they would have to talk. good voices by the way. rip dana hill (jerry)

I totally agree. I didn't like the fact that during the feel the Tom and Jerry were actually getting along well together.
In animated versions shown as cartoons on T.V., they hated each other. Tom kept chasing after Jerry all the time.

It was weird to see a dog telling a cat to make friends with a mouse. So weird..

reply

Well Tom and Jerry did occasionally work together in the cartoons, though it was usually to get rid of a greater threat.

As for the title...the worst animated movie ever is, hands down, Believe in Santa. If you don't know what that is, be thankful, but the Tom & Jerry movie could never come close to that atrocity.

And finally, this movie...I remember enjoying it when I saw it. The only major gripe people have with it is that it's almost the exact opposite of the cartoon, with Tom and Jerry yakking it up onscreen, lack of cartoon violence, and the general "let's get along!" atmosphere. Personally, I thought that would have been expected. When you bring a cartoon to the theater as a full length movie, you need to make it...theatrical. I saw that Magic Ring DTV Tom & jerry movie a few months back. I guess that would be an example of a "real" T&J movie in the vein of the cartoons, but I could barely sit through the whole thing. It was like one looooong episode, about 60 minutes longer than it should have been. Nothing important happened. It was the typical T&J fare. There felt like there had been no notable 'progress' by the ending. So, for what it's worth, I'm glad the original Tom & Jerry movie is the way that it is...

This was one of my favourite childhood cartoons, how dare you.

It's not a lie if you believe it.

reply

It's honestly not that bad at all - as other people have said, what are they going to do, be enemies the whole time? It's always been one of my favorite animated movies.

reply

It's one of my favourite chilhood cartoon too... I think it's awesome, the story, the songs, them getting along, everything! And at the end of the movie they are not so chummy anymore and they go back to the old days

now it might sound cocky but is it really cocky if you know that it's true...

reply

Why am I the only person who enjoyed this as a young kid? A dog telling the cat and mouse to be friends? What's wrong with that? Can't accept good manners?

The music is nice, too. I'd like any of you to create music.

reply

If they had thrown in a little more slapstick between the two and a little less talking (but only a little), it would have been better. I remember liking to see them talk for a change.

It seemed to me like the problem was Tom and Jerry getting completely overshadowed by all the other characters. Though I did like that obese dog...and we needed more of Cap'n Kiddie and Squawk!

But, yeah, it wasn't that great. Could have been better. Maybe more Droopy, too. I'm just rambling now.

The point about the ungodly suckage is that Tom and Jerry should never have been friends or talking! It goes against everything in the cartoons!

In fact, this movie should have never been made in the first place! There's NO excuses to screw something over like Tom and Jerry!

Well while it's not the main point, there's a bunch of examples from the 40s, 50s, 70s, and then the 2000s to say those things can happen that aren't this movie.

The poor script let dsown two of the world's favourite funnymen. The beauty of the shorts is that neither of the characters ever spoke, except for very brief moments i.e. Tom speaking like Maurice Chevalier etc. making us hysterical with laughter. A full length movie was never the right format for these funny guys. The producers and co. should be ashamed to have taken part. They should have just left us to remember the mini masterpieces we all know and love.

reply

Here's what I understand about this movie:

1) Tom and Jerry are friends.
2) Tom and Jerry can talk.

The movie should be an hour and a half of them beating the crap out of each other.

Chuck Jones did a whole series of Tom and Jerry cartoons where they were in outer space. Sounds stupid but they were great because they stuck to the formula - they don't talk and they try to beat the crap out of each other all the time.

reply

Are you kidding? That's EXACTLY why the DTV movie sucked. It was just Tom and Jerry beating on each other for 90 minutes. There was no point. The shorts work because they're exactly that - shorts. Never longer than 10 minutes. They come up with a theme and stick to it, then wrap it up. The Magic Ring just keeps going...and going...AND GOING. After awhile you just stop caring, and you could tell the producers were running out of ideas. This movie will always be better than THAT one.

well i liked it, and i watched it some 3 times. Besides, it has Raziel and Elder as voices :)

Mondale to Hart: "Where's the beef?"

reply

though i love tom and jerry i had a problem with robin and her plight, i get the fact the pair were trying to help her but she and the rest of the humans were so annoying that there stories just dragged the film down

Film Roman Productions made this film. I think the film would have been much more better if it was made under Hanna Barbera Productions.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOL Interesing that you said that...besides the founders of Hanna-Barbera Productions creating Tom and jerry, "Robyn" looks like 1969-1982 Hanna-Barbera female type regardless of age [the "Charlotte's Web"/"Scooby" era school), in addition to the "All Dogs Go to Heaven"/"The Rescuers I" situation already mentioned here and on a YouTube video that someone posted about things the movie ripped off.) 9Robyn, though voiced by some child actress named Anndi McAfee--is she any way related to the McAfee computing anti-virus people)--for a while a go-to performer for some producers, Film Roman in particular at this particular time, sounds like she was trained by the immortal Janet Waldo, "Judy Jetson" & "Josie", but without the much older predecessor's flair (no personal insult.)

I refused to see that, of course, due to what this film was. No matter who was connected with it (and shame on MIRAMAX, -why couldn't MGM or TURNER release this--who was then doing "The Crow" and stuff even then, for releasing THIS!!)

Yeccch!

I don't think its the worst Tom and Jerry movie, it was disappointing, but I disliked Tom and Jerry: The Fast and the Furry more.

reply

i liked it, and still do, maybe it was cause i was really little when i first saw it

reply

The movie wasn't that bad IMO, I was one of the few who liked to see them talk for a change.

However, the only problem I can see is that they went from focusing on Tom and Jerry to the girl.

reply

yeah. i've got to say, i thoroughly enjoyed this movie. even now that i'm grown up. Please. this is not the worst cartoon movie ever by FAR. Ever heard of a movie called "Ferngully 2"? There are far worse things in this world my friend. Tom and Jerry being the worst ever is far more than an exaggeration. If you didn't like the fact that they talked, (shrug) that's a valid opinion, but it doesn't make it a bad movie. and the songs? (shrug) i liked 'em. Granted it was focused more on Robin than it should have been but, i guess they felt they needed more of a plot. It didn't make the movie BAD though. Just different than what people expected. Besides, this movie's a lot better than their later "Magic Ring" stupidity. So yeah, keep in mind there are MANY bad cartoon movies and far FAR worse than this one.

reply

I agree. Like I said earlier, I was disappointed with this movie, but it is not the worst cartoon movie ever. I absolutely agree about FernGully 2, love the first really disliked the sequel. But the worst cartoon movie for me has to be Secret of NIMH 2:Timmy To The Rescue, a complete insult to the beautiful original, where the voice cast was the only good thing about it. Also while this was disappointing, I do not think it is the worst Tom and Jerry movie. Tom and Jerry:The Fast and the Furry had a good idea but in the end it was more a badly executed crossover of Tom and Jerry meets Wacky Races.
