Ray and Maggie would have a been a good couple.

sad about Maggie, she tried to help her people and was killed for it.
I thought Maggie and Ray would have made a nice couple. he 1/4 sioux
she full blood. but they would have looked good together.
did I detect some chemistry or just a potential friendship?

I agree, the first time you see this film, you detect this romantic or mutual respect sort of coupling chemistry, & assume or hope it will lead to somewhere. I sometimes imagine what their life would've been like if she survived, they would make a lovely couple & Ray's awakening or transition into a true Sioux would've only been strengthened by Maggie's character & foundation in her people. Still, I like how things ended w/ them, it was an unexpected out of the norm one, something Ray needed at the time to finally embrace his roots & stand for his people. Plus, we may never have had that awesome last scene at the Stronghold if Maggie had lived.

I had a weird dream last night...

I agree about the respect, even chemistry between them. But I also think it would have made the film more commonplace in a way. There are so many thriller/romance hybrids out there. Not that this is even a standard thriller, it's got a lot more.

In this film scenario, the character of Maggie is loosely based on the true life person Anna Mae Aquash, who was mysteriously murdered in December 1975 on the rez by some unknown thugs who horribly cut off both her hands. They found her body in the Badlands.
