What happened to Jimmy?

Ok spoiler ahead

So when Jimmy makes his reappearance and gets arrested, we see him being dragged off into a helicopter. However when the film's story resolves itself at the end, I don't remember anything being said about Jimmy. Did I miss something?

Jimmy was the Leonard Peltier of the movie. The real Leonard Peltier is actually still in prison. The movie is based on the real events Iin wounded knee

And ironically, John Trudell (Jimmy) was chairman of A.I.M., which the group A.R.M. Was based on.

.....those seen dancing to the sound of no music, were thought to be mad, by those who could not hear it.

Leonard Peltier murdered two FBI agents (an event which was referenced by Cooch). Jimmy was not supposed to be an expy of Peltier.
And yes, real Leonard Peltier is in prison and that's where he's gonna stay.

reply

Bullsht. That case was a mockery of justice, Peltier didn't get anything even remotely resembling a fair trial, and everyone knows it. There has been no justice done to those two FBI agents, because railroading someone simply in order to put someone in jail for the crime is NOT justice.

The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.

I know this is an old thread, but I watched this last night for the first time in a long time and there are hints. Maggie says that Jimmy is a shape-shifter. Ray (and generally the audience) assumes she's messing with him.

The large buck that takes off behind the shed the agents just shot up while looking for Jimmy was supposed to *be* Jimmy. Then the dog that Ray jokingly calls "Jimmy" appears and disappears at odd times. It suddenly jumps out of Ray's car when Walter Crow Horse approaches. The dog also accompanies Ray to Grampa's house where Jimmy suddenly shows up, right before his arrest. We don't see the dog again until everything has been resolved near the end.

So, if Jimmy was a shape-shifter, he was indeed free at the end, which may explain why the filmmakers didn't blatantly discuss his fate.

This is just speculation, but decent, well-written films often offer many more layers than what appears on the surface.

I don't think you read my original post correctly.

reply

I don't know what I could've missed.

If Jimmy was a shape-shifter, then the dog being seen again with Ray at the end of the film meant that Jimmy was free. No, nothing is "said" about Jimmy, which, to me, lends more credibility to the shape-shifter theory. Again, I may be wrong.

reply

if anyone would be a shapeshifter who could outrun the law, it would be John Trudell RIP
