In a voice-over, Alice says that Sherry's perfume is called Ambush. Later, she's a little embarassed when Sheryl is in A's room and notices a bottle of the same perfume. Allie says it's her mom's and Sheryl playfully squirts some on both of them.

God, I love this movie - DVD, release, please...

As a teenager in the Sixties, my first fragrances were Ambush and Tabu. Later, I added Emeraude to my collection. To this day, I still love Ambush.

The Sixties was a great time for exploring fragrances. I even had cologne (which I prefer to perfume) that smelled like a new-mown lawn! You can't say they weren't creative! By the mid-'60s, many of us probably smelled like sugar cookies because vanilla and cinnamon were popular, along with other natural scents.

Actually, it's surprising that no one had Evening in Paris. *giggle* It seemed as if every female had a cobalt-blue bottle of this inexpensive cologne.

Now, the doddering old Baby Boomer will bow out.

I have heard my mother talk about "Evening in Paris" perfume.

I have never smelled "Ambush," but I want to now!

What did Ambush smell like? Was it one of the sweet/cinnamon/vanilla-y ones?

Ambush has a deeper, more intense aroma, an underlying musky scent. It's definitely not one with sweet tones but has a spiciness similar to cinnamon. It's not a "fluffy" fragrance. Tabu is in the same scent range as Ambush but a little more insistent. Ambush especially seems to permeate fabric and linger.

I liked wearing it during autumn and winter, especially when wearing velvet/velvety materials. I often was teased for my perfume/cologne theories that depend on time of year, temperature/weather, and clothing. Back in the late Sixties and into the Seventies, I had a "wardrobe" of fragrances. Among my favorites was Ambush, but I also loved Emeraude (for which Brut is the male equivalent), Heaven Sent, Avon's Hawaiian White Ginger, and these crystalline tube-sticks that were of purer fragrances, such as cinnamon, vanilla and lemon. I still have remnants of most of these. One of my aunts loved Topaze and always gave us youngsters the empty containers, each of which sports a fake topaz "gem". Topaze was too strong for me. I like the mellower fragrances. No Chanel No. 5 for me! Most of the alcohol-strong ones that are strangely popular repulse me~actually physically, making my throat close up in an allergic reaction.

Ambush is such a classic! Some vanilla musk perfumes come close to it but don't have its richness.

EDIT: Out of curiosity, I looked up some of the scents and learned that Ambush, Tabu AND Heaven Sent are by Dana! I never realized that till now, as I doubt that we ever paid attention to manufacturers. We really were not name conscious about clothing, perfumes or much else back then. I do remember people liking Yardley's Lavender, but it wasn't one I wanted to wear.
