Tartan Tetsuo

So what is the deal with the Tartan version of Tetsuo 2 Body Hammer? I know its region zero, but is there a reason why I should find the Manga Entertainment version instead? I spent forever tracking down the Manga Entertainment Director's Cut VHS copy, but as expected, it doesn't work but for only a couple minutes. Finding the DVD Manga DC is getting on my nerves. Is anything cut out of the Tartan one or something?

The TARTAN release of Body Hammer is REGION 0 but it's in PAL format, if you have an NTSC player then it won't play. The MANGA DVD is rare and hard to find, it's sells for little more then $40 on AMAZON.

anyone any idea if the manga version is really different to the tartan? its impossible to find any information on the net it seams :(

This site does comparisons between different DVD versions: http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=2366

Besides the special features it seems the only difference is in the soundtrack. Not sure if either has better picture quality.

i went into Virgin today and picked the Tartan version for £6, if you go onto the HMV website you can get it for £5.

The manga version is pretty good. There arent really special features. It is a full screen presentaion and appears uncut (it says it is too).

There is also a anti drug commercial with Chuck D. (of Public Enemy) on the DVD i like that, thats a nice touch. Now go light your bowls kids!

WATCH "I WAS A TEENAGE ZOMBIE" Excellent B horror/comedy!

I definitely recommend the Tartan UK DVD of this film if you have a way of playing PAL DVDs. The Manga Entertainment release looks to be transferred from a VHS source, thus is rather poor in quality. The Tartan release is quite a bit better, although still not very good.

There's also the Italian release by Raro Video, which I believe is only available as part of a box set containing the first Tetsuo as well as an earlier Tsukamoto short film called Denchu Kozo no Boken. This one has the nicest video of the three, and looks the most filmic, but unfortunately it was cropped for widescreen. This movie was very clearly framed at 1:37:1, so the 16:9 image looks really cramped, and often cuts off the tops of people's heads, or the lower halves of their faces. The most frustrating part is that the box itself even says the transfer is 4:3 (thus, webstores selling it will proclaim it is), but such is not the case.

I would assume the Japanese DVD is the best. I would really love to own the Japanese DVDs of Tsukamoto's movies, but I don't think any of them are English-friendly.

Also: Anyone interested in Tokyo Fist and has the means to watch PAL DVDs ought to get the Raro Video release. Looks better than the Manga DVD, and it has well-done English subtitles. I believe it's region-free (their Tsukamoto/Tetsuo box set is), but I'm not certain.
