Think Catcher in the Rye meets Less Than Zero

This movie was actually filmed in 1987, and if you pay close attention to details (cars, clothes, etc.) this movie resembles a Madonna video on LSD.

I grew up in the 80's (lord, help me), and I went to Prep School. I can assure you that teenagers like this were not unique in the mid to late 80's. It is a very good representation of what life was like for some teenagers in that time. Think Catcher in the Rye meets Less Than Zero.

It is a very good movie. Very, very dark... disturbing on a couple of occasions. (One scene with Luke Perry is particularly disturbing). The acting is sub-par at best, so you just have to overlook that. You also have to look past the campy and dated aesthetic of the film. However, there is a pretty good statement regarding children who try to grow up to fast.

I actually owned this on VHS. I haven't looked lately to see if it has come out on DVD. It only got released on VHS after Luke Perry reached fame on BH 90210. As for the rest of the cast, none had much of a career, although Estee Chandler went on to Teen Wolf fame before her last gig in 1988, and Sonia Curtis returned to acting in 2001 after a layoff of nearly a decade.

If you get the chance, it's not the best movie in the world, but there are alot of real enjoyable aspects of this movie. Alexis Arquette absolutely STEALS some of the scenes! Check it out!

do you still own this flick?
for yeeears I have been trying to find out what in the world the song is that the girl, Stevie, plays on the piano after she gives the pint of ice cream to the boy-- she says that ice cream is better than sex and the boy says, "I wouldn't know ...I've never had ice cream."
Then she gets on the piano and plays some composure-- I've been thinking for the longest time that she says it's Shostakovich, then the boy says something to her about it and she says, "Beggars can't be choosers..."
I think the song is played again at the very end of the movie... maybe you can fast forward to the end and read the credits, haha, I'd reeeeally appreciate it if you'd be able to find out the name of that piano song.

Thanks!
