I just got an update from rightstuf.com at http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/pUCtXqbYeCpjyqdEAU/browse/item/70151/4/0/0)
The news is that Volume 2 will contain the next 3 episodes aka 17-19 in the OVA episode list. This volume that will have Misao Kuramitsu's attempt at rescuing his sister Mihoshi after he and his family were misinformed by a message Mihoshi had sent them that she was being abused by Tenchi (Which the message was tampered by Tokimi's servant Z. The final episode has the big battle between Tenchi and Z

So it looks like episode 20 which is special episode that was designed to wrap up the storyline will be the only episode on Volume 3. This special episode will explain all the remaining plot points.

Does anyone know if maybe, since it's taking so long, they could have actually gotten Patrea Buchard to come back for Ryoko? Because Mona Marshall just doesn't cut it. I would have rathered them got Barbara Goodson. As Yuzuha she could have pulled off a good Ryoko and she was a great voice actress.

reply

So what? is this the end of the OVA's for good after the special?

reply

Nah, too many unanswered questions left for just one special.

reply

Hell they were buzzing on the internet when Tenchi Forever came out, saying it was the end of the series. Why??? because the back of the vhs box says "is this the end of Tenchi???" Since then they have put out GXP and OVA3. Also they are currently working on another Pretty Sammy series, I saw some artwork for it, they are going for a hamtaro look. I doubt the series will ever end, any series for that matter. I would even go so far not to rule out Dragonball and Evangelion getting a new series years down the road.

reply

I hope not, usually the longer some shows go on for, they'll eventually get worse and worse. However if they do deside to keep going with a few more seasons for the OVA, I hope they come out a bit faster. I really don't want another 10 year waiting period.

Though I have to say I would like another season of Tenchi Universe, but I'm doubtful that it will ever happen.

reply

Personally I think Dragonball has enough to it that it doesn't need anymore. Although there are some people at the DB boards asking for more stuff.

It helps having a solid company, so they can crank out new material at a steady pace, instead of wasting months screwing around with renewal contracts, and trying to keep voice actor teams together, and recasting roles and all that crap.

Tenchi Universe was my favorite series. It was the very first anime I started on back in 98. Although now that they are continuing the ova I might change that opinion. That was the problem with the ova for me. It always felt unfinished. Im glad they are continuing. Another series im happy to see get the revival treatment is the Ah My Goddess series.

I agree on the Dragonball series, mainly like you said it had enough. It also became somewhat repetitive. Plus the writer isn't planning on adding anything to it so there is little point to another season/series, unless people really want another GT.

Yeah, thankfully the majority of the cast is there, though Ryoko will probably never sound the same to the fans of the dubbed series (like me), still we should be happy that a dub was made anyway.

Tenchi Universe was also my favorite, mainly because the story flowed very nicely. The characters were mainly the same (besides having different back stories) were the most realistic. The action was nice, and every episode had a good bit of humour. However my only problem with it is the lack of certain character's history, and development. While Ryoko, Ayeka, and Tenchi are in the limelight, we never get to learn alot from Washu, Sasami, Mihoshi, and Kiyone.

Take Kiyone for example, we know she's a galaxy police officer but we know very little about her family or child hood. We've only scratched the surface of her character. If this series was extended a bit, I would have liked to learn more about these characters, whether or not they also might have a crush on Tenchi or not like their OVA counterparts.

One thing I noticed around the internet is some fans think Kiyone (Mihoshis partner) and Tenchi's mother in the OVA who's name is also Kiyone instead of Achika are one in the same. I think the profiles over at Absolute Anime stated don't confuse them.

The only major drawback for me with the new OVA is trying to keep track of all these new characters. Between the GXP and now the OVA there is an assload of new characters linked to tenchis family. We now have Airi Masaki, who turns out to be Yosho's wife, who had two daughters, Tenchi's mom and Minaho who is Tenchi's aunt, who works with Lady Seto who was adopted into the Juraian royalty. Then we find out Tenchi has a sister named Tennyo who looks identical to Kiyone because she uses an aging disguise that makes her look like Tenchi's mother in the last years of her life (note to self never visit someone using a disguise to resemble someone in their family they think has been dead for years). Also Nobuyuki has remarried to Rea Masaki, and we find out Mihoshi has a brother, and to top it all off Tenchi is betrothed to Noike the adopted daughter of Lady Seto????

Most of this was all dropped right in the first two episode of the new OVA series.
I was like whoa!!! Slow down...what is this thanksgiving??? There coming out of the woodwork!!! So after watching the OVA pretty much all the info ran out of my head. I had to watch it through again, then read the profiles posted by the guys over at absolute anime, they were very helpful in figuring out WTF is going on.

It's true I think the writer really wants to put as much as he can into this series, but leave us open to questions like "What's gonna happen next?" However he seems to almost put so much in the series all at one time, that it can be a bit overwhelming to the viewer.

We still have yet to see what kind of character Tennyo is, oh and by the way she looks like Kiyone because of genetics. That's not her older disguise we haven't seen it, however there are some differences between Tennyo and Kiyone such as their eye colors.

However now that OVA 3 is out I think the actual story flow will start to become a bit more even now, mainly because we have a new set of characters to learn about, and Tenchi's true powers have yet to be seen as well.

lol Then again we could just have another 10 year waiting period followed by OVA 4 with brand new characters being introduced in the first five minutes of the first show, who are played by completely new voice actors. I certainly hope not though.

Yeah many sights say to not get the two Kiyone's confused, even though they both have different looks, personalities, universes that they live in, and of course last names.

However what I thought was funny was the look of Yosho's wife in Tenchi Universe, she looks exactly like Kiyone/Tennyo from the OVA.

Can someone tell me if Tenchi's dad is a Jurian because his sister said she was 80 years old which means Tenchi's dad must be an immortal too. But if so, how? Was he a Jurian Bethorned for Kiyone?

John

reply

Nobuyuki, Tenchi's dad is an Earthling. He married Kiyone who was Juraian, Tenchi and his sister became half Juraian from their mother. Nobuyuki does not possess Juraian blood.

reply

Then how has he stayed so young? Considering his daughter is over 80 and he looks like he is 40.

reply

Nobuyuki actually is of Jurai decent, in this series and is one of Yoshos decendents from another wife. Noboyuki was born first, later on Yosho married again and had another daughter then later on he had the second daughter Kiyone who later met up with Tenchi's father and married, they're like second cousins.

In the Universe series Tenchi's dad is an Earthling and doesn't have any heritage from Jurai. Of course in this series people from Jurai age the same way humans do.

http://www.tenchizone.com/

Go to this site here and to the left menu click Family Tree it should explain almost all the characters and how they relate to each other.

reply

This is exactly what im talking about. It's difficult to keep track of each character and their past histories. Personally I liked Nobuyuki better as an Earthling.

reply

Well to me that seems to be the more realistic approach and Nobuyuki is just a son in law to the Misaki family.

Also in Universe both Yosho and Nobuyuki have a closer father/son friendship which all started thanks to Achika, and over all the friendship they both had seems thicker the blood relation the OVA characters have.

reply

the problem is i don't give a damn about all these new characters. i just wanted them to wrap it up with Tenchi finally chosing one of the original girls, most likely ryoko and giving some closure

reply

That's not going to happen since by not having Tenchi choose which girl he likes as it is one of the show's personal trademarks. Although one thing I was surprised by is that for the spinoff series GXP which is also set in the OVA continuity for the main character Seina Yamada to marry the girls that were close to him in a political marriage. Though it was interesting when I saw it the first time around, I could also image if Tenchi would have ever gone through a political marriage just like Seina had.

reply

It's kinda like a running gag for this series, not finalizing who Tenchi picks. Even if they do have him end up with someone I figure it will be someone who nobody has seen before. It might have been just me but Ayeka did not seem too concerned with Tenchi in this series, maybe she gave up a little when they dropped Seto's name, saying she was responsible for Noike being Tenchi's fiancee. But Ryoko did not take it so easy.
