First of all, the third OVA is nowhere near as good as the first two. None of the characters acted the same as they did in the first two OVAs. I didn't find any of it funny. Now to your question. The new OVA series does the wacky thing of showing the ending first and then telling you how that got there. The final battle with Z was over, and then Washu tells us what is going on. It left us with so many questions that I don't think I have enough time to answer to all. If you want a good conclusion to a Tenchi series, watch Tenchi Universe. The last ten episodes build up to the final battle, which makes it so much better.

Well what do you expect when the entire directing crew changes? Especially going from a good company like Pioneer to a crappy one like Funimation. I am impressed that they got most of the original crew back but I really hate Ryoko's voice... Mind you Mona Marshall is one of my favorite voice actors, but not when she's using that voice for a girl. She still sounds like a girl to me and lacks Ryoko's sex appeal.

As for the actual series, the OVA is the closest to the original story. The rest of the series were made by other directors, kind of like comparing Rayearth to Magic Knight Rayearth. Same characters but way different story.

Well anyway at least I'll admit that I liked some of the jokes from that series such as from the second episode with the whole Ryoko getting slapped by Airi. But still I am glad that Funimation didn't add any original plot material that didn't exist in the Japanese version like they did with Tenchi Muyo! GXP and various other anime. Personally I prefer to watch the material in Japanese audio because I've noticed that Funimation tends to censor it's dialouge for their English Dubs such as during the flashback scenes in the first episode of OVA 3 they removed the sperm sample remark that Washu made back in Episode 7. One thing is for sure is that although Funimation's translation of the Japanese version is better than most other companies their English Dubs are pretty poor and should not be used on the Dvds.

Since I know that Mona Marshall is not as good as Ryoko's my best cure for that is to listen to Ryoko's japanese voice which is performed by Ai Orikasa at least she is talented and she is also a singer and sung some of the Japanese versions of the TM songs most notebly in Tenchi Universe.
