Why does no one know about this film?

I don't understand why this is the first message board post, why there's virtually no scholarly work written on this film, or why SO few people have heard of it. I think it's brilliant! It's especially interesting to view in juxtaposition with Hitchcock's Rope, as there are many subtle stylistic and thematic similarities to be found, if looked at carefully; Also fascinating to see how portrayals of this case have changed/progressed. I would write more, but I feel like it won't be read. If anyone knows of any published articles on this film, please let me know!

Their is a book called "American Independent Cinema" which has a collection of articles about different independent films. It is from a collection of books called the Sight and Sounds Readers. One of the articles in the book has to do with Swoon.

The underatedness of the film really bothers me as well. It is a brilliant movie and I feel it is the most accurate portrayal of the Leopold and Loeb case. Sadly, nobody seems to recognize this fact... I too was shocked to see this was the only post on the message board! Hopefully people will start acquiring some taste ! :)

I think this film is finally getting the recognition it deserves. I just saw it today as part of my "cinema studies" subject at university. I thought it was brilliant.

Occasionally, The LOGO channel shows this film, but they edit movies to pieces.

I actually wrote a whole paper on this film, and I included discussion of Leopold and Loeb, and the movies Rope and Compulsion as well.
But I agree: it is not widely known, and it should be.

What did you write your paper for? It would be interesting to read if possible.

I was hoping to get it published in a film magazine but that didn't work. I think I only have a hard copy of it somewhere and would have to find it. (Wrote it back in the days before I had a computer.)

Also, check out New Queer Cinema edited by Michele Aaron and published by University of Edinburgh press. Great book, she was my uni teacher!

Life; maybe, you didn't know about this film until you saw it; however, I can assure you that it is fairly well-known--especially for an "art" film.

I thought it was interesting and fairly well-done. I wouldn't go so far as to call it "brilliant," nor do I think there needs to be any scholarly work done on the film. The subject matter of Leopold and Loeb has been covered extensively--including, as you noted in Alfred Hitchcock's far superior Rope.
