I like this movie, worth a rent.

why shoot the breeze about it, when you could be about it

reply

this is a pretty cute movie. i remember when i was little, me and my sister taped it off tv because we saw the ad for it and it said teri hatcher (because of lois and clark) was in it (for 2 seconds,) and we ended up loving the film, haha.

Well worth renting!!!
An easy watch, feel good movie!
A real Dolly role thru and thru!!!!

One of the best romantic comedies ever! The script is delicious, the soundtrack is brilliant, the title theme song is perfect and Dolly shines as ever. I have a hard time figuring out my favorite Dolly film: "Straight Talk" or "Nine to Five". The later is coming out any day now as a special 25th aniversary DVD release!

Wish they'd release a better edition of "Straight Talk" on disc -- widescreen with the deleted scenes that they show on TV, trailers and the music videos ("Light of a Clear Blue Morning," which appeared on the original video release and the more elusive "Straight Talk" video).

And in Teri Hatcher's defense, yes, her part is small. But she was a nobody in 1992. It wasn't until she starred as Lois Lane the following year that she began to get recognition and became a "big name celebrity."

I love this movie and anytime that it's on TV (usually WGN in my area, or UPN on a Sunday) I watch it. I love it!

OMG! Yes, you have got to rent it! It is so good! Love it! Dolly Parton does an excellent job! She does hilarous she always does in films. this is my favorite with her in it! Rent it!

Suspend all disbelief and you will get to the end of the film with a big smile on your face.
Great film and Dolly is, as always, fantastic.

reply

i love it and i certainly recommend it

Yeah, it's alright. James Woods is always worth a watch even if he's more reined in than usual here, and Dolly Parton is sweet and likeable enough as the lead to get us on her side rather than make us irritated. Like most old fashioned films we remember that were charming and romantic, the plot is a little too convenient, but if you don't mind that then this is as good a way as any to help get you through a slow afternoon. 6/10.

ATTENTION all IMDB users... "Testicles!" That is all.

reply

I don't know about you but I'd rent it just because Dolly Parton starrs in it.

reply

True, it did not get good reviews but then those critics weren't looking at it from the vantage point of a Dolly Parton fan. A Dolly Parton fan will love it, maybe other people won't be as crazy about it.

By the way the DVD is usually only like $5-10 bucks to buy which isn't that much more than most places charge you to rent movies.

It was on CMT tonight and I never understood what happened to the original shrink they hired for the show. The coincidences are a bit much, and its not like you would die from the fall into the Chicago River (now the muck IN the Chicago River might be a different story). Parton and Woods can make chicken soup out of chicken scat, which they do here.
