No masterpiece, but...

I've seen a lot worse. There are a few good laughs to be had - I particularly liked Estelle Getty washing Sly's gun in the sink.

And you gotta give it a point for driving the Peterbilt through the airplane propellor. THAT was cool.

reply

your right, apparently the morons who voted this down have never seen manos: hands of fate or hob goblins or something...

and yeah, i was laughing my ass off when she was cleaning the gun.

reply

^^ true!

It's a good Sly flick! Acting = 8/10... Plot = 5/10... so out of 10, at least a 6 ot 7, on the comedy side, it's perfect!! Estelle Getty is one of the best old actress of the 90s.

reply

i'd give this film a 6 or 7 i dunno why people have slated it so much it's just light hearted fun and thats what it's ment to be fun

It's just a typical example of bad reputation preceeding the actual quality of the movie.

People going with popular opinion is nothing new.

reply

I think the movie is cute! I like it.

reply

You're absolutely right, hordak. (Yes, I respond to 2-year-old messages written by people named after She-Ra characters. What of it?)

I never felt this movie was that terrible, really. It's certainly mediocre, but no better or worse than most of the action-comedies from this era.

Estelle Getty (RIP) was certainly enjoyable. And Stallone seemed to be having fun poking at his macho tough-guy demeanor.

I think the movie just gets an unfair amount of negativity simply because, like with Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Action Hero and Chuck Norris' Top Dog, they were movies that came out right about the time the public was getting tired of the 80s action movie stars.

reply

I like this movie, I don't understand why people don't.

Anybody who went into the theatre expecting a masterpiece or even a GREAT comedy should have known better just from the premise, but this is definately a fun movie and lighthearted fare for when you may not want to belly laugh over and over again or cry, be scared or be greatly moved in any way. Movies like this have a kind of quality that is unexplainable, and that a lot of people just don't enjoy.

reply

I'd been put off watching this cos of the crap reviews. I was somewhat surprised to like it!

And yeah, a proper way to stop a plane.

reply

It's a terrible film, absolutely appalling. But in that lies its genius. It's perfectly harmless nonsense that really does pass the time and keeps you amused. I remember finding it hilarious when I was 10, and I'm watching it now on ITV2. His mom has just offered to play bad cop to his good cop. Brilliant.

reply

I like this film....the interaction between stallone's character and estelles as mother and son is convincing and very funny!!

spoiler
I like the scene where mum is showin stallones ex photos of him as a child and then he walks in and they both just start crying and he just watches them confused!! hahahaa

well then its not terrible or appaling, its a good family movie.

reply

no, no, people need to demand more from movies if they think what you think of this movie. this movie is bad in every way. who cares if it's not painful to watch. it's also worthless to watch. there is nothing redeeming or good about it. it's so bad that even stallone always looks disinterested in this, like he'd rather not be acting in this movie. i've never seen him look or act so bored or stiff or tired in a movie before.

I don't know why this movie is so hated, we get to see Sly Stallone in an adult diaper. How hilarious is that?

"Mom! I don't wanna be changed!"

Brother Maynard, bring forth the holy hand grenade!

reply

I have always enjoyed this film, 3.9 is ridiculous! Another comedy I enjoy and like is Last Action Hero, and apparently, people hated it too. I just don't get why these films are so harshly criticized.
