Is this a certain film I watched awhile ago?

I watched a film when I was younger about Stalin that was extremely powerful. All I remember clearly is that one of his friends/colleagues is sent off by Stalin to be shot.

The man is then shot by one of his former friends and just says 'promise my family is safe'. Then he shots him in the head and you see his corpse being pulled away.

Is this the same film?

Yes, it sure is! The actor who says that is the one who plays the playwright in the film, CROSSING DELANCY. I sure hope that it will be released one of these days! The scene you mention also had The Dying Swan playing in the background. Very powerful!!!!!
