My question is....

If Alison Gertz had no previous sexual experience, no drug taking past and no history of blood transfusion. How did she end up with the AIDS virus?

She got the virus from her first sexual experience, when she was 16 yrs old. She wasn't tested and diagnosed until she was 22, as she didn't fit into the "high-risk" group according to her doctors.

I thought it was the barman that gave her AIDS

I am not revealing my name to protect the innocent.

Actually the barman was bisexual, he liked to have sex with men and women. In the movie the guy that gave her aids was named Darren, they changed his name for the movie, in real life the guy who gave Alison aids was Court. I remember reading that somewhere. Court was bisexual and was with someone new practically every night. I saw this movie at first in Mr. Bum's class as a 10th grader for Catholic Studies, and I also saw the movie in Mr. Bum's class as a 12th grader for Sociology. I have the Alison Gertz movie Fatal Love on dvd. I bought the dvd on ebay.

She was 16 and met a cute guy (a bar tender IIRC), dated him, slept with him (her first) and then years later discovered that he slept around and had given her HIV. Bear in mind that this was 1982 when hardly anyone had heard about AIDS and most of those who had thought it was purely a Gay disease (at the time it may even have still been called GRID (Gay Related Immune Deficiency) and didn't affect heterosexuals.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

She got it from a guy who was bi. I remember when she and Ryan White were the poster children for AIDS, seeing her on Oprah. All she kept saying was that it was terrible that the guy didn't tell her he was bi, that everyone needs to ask their sexual partners if they are bi. At the time she was on the show, it was well-known that even hetero sex could transmit AIDS but she really was hung up on how the big bad icky sick gay man was so mean and deceptive to the sweet innocent straight rich girl. Now, no one should get AIDS, but when she was on TV in the 90s she should have been educated enough not to think it was a gay thing. Also, she should have known enough to use a condom anyway, just because of herpes and syphillis.

>>> when she was on TV in the 90s she should have been educated enough not to think it was a gay thing.

The fact is that she got it from a male who had had sex with men.

It is also a fact that the average homosexual male has far more sexual encounters than the average heterosexual male.

It is also a fact that anal sex facilitates transmission far more than vaginal sex.

It is also a fact that homosexual men engage in anal sex far more than heterosexual men.

None of these facts are PC. But they are all facts.

She had plenty of sexual experience. I thought it was off when she stated in the film that she was "not promiscuous". Anyone who sleeps with a bartender when she is 16 and then goes on to sleep with 4 other men by time she is 22 is promiscuous. I'm certainly not saying the she deserved to get AIDS but be honest about your life.

She may not have considered herself to be promiscuous just by having multiple sex partners. Maybe it was her notion that she did not sleep around that gave her this idea. But the fact remains that this is often how AIDS and other STDs get spread. Still, this was the late 80s and early 90s when AIDS was becoming more of a mainstream epidemic. Now, no one wants to believe it can happen to them. But her mission was to shatter the myth that if you are not gay or bi or just have sex once that you won't get the disease, as she clearly states to the high schoolers. Also, I am not sure that the telefilm touches upon the bartender being bi. But the real life "Darren", whose actual name was Cort, was bi.
