Why did the go back to their headquarters in the end?

Didn't they think the bad guys would be there waiting for them?

That's totally the first thing that popped into my head too. They had no way of knowing the REAL NSA would be there, and I'd think that'd be the first place bad guys would look. Granted with James Earl Jones there, I'm assuming the real NSA would go after bad guys so the place would be safe after the ending. But again, Martin and his crew should have Still been playing it safe and not gone back to HQ. (And especially not WITH the device.)

During the EPIC phone-trace scene it was not evident the NSA knew where they were...

Of course with Whistler's concern and seconds counting down...I would have returned to Liz's or at the VERY least stake out the place for a while before returning.

However, if I returned from "The greatest 'sneak' in history..(and I couldn't tell anyone)I'd likely not be thinking too clearly."

Think about it: They had the box, with the real item inside. Bishop, being good at anticipating events, must have had a feeling the NSA was there, waiting for them. What better way to get them off his back than to give them what they wanted...minus the guts of the box (the chip that Bishop shows Liz at the end of that scene). He wasn't lying when he said "You know it doesn't work..."

"Cattle mutilations are up..."
