Mary Robert: Different Dress. I'm about confused about the uniforms they wore.

Since Deloris was new to the convent, why was she given the same uniform as all of the other nuns who had been there for years? Shouldn't she have been given the same dress as Sister Mary Robert?
By the way; why does Sister Mary Robert wear a different uniform than the rest of the nuns? What she was wearing could have been something you could wear to school.

Sister Mary Robert is a novice. She is still a lay person. She hasn't taken her vows yet.

Deloris is pretending to be a nun so she's dressed in a habit.

In general, nuns don't wear the habit any more. They are welcome to, but, because they spend so much time in community outreach, they fit in better with the public in street clothes.

A solution looking for a problem. Sisters worked in communities for centuries without a problem.

Okay, I wondered if it was because she was a novice.
Thank you.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to make Deloris a novice too?
It would have been a good explanation for that she didn't know the rules in the beginning...

There are nuns around here who work with the homeless, and when they go out on the streets they wear the wimples (headdress) with matching frumpy ankle-length skirts. I think they want to make it clear that they're both there to help, and not carrying anything of value.
